Record uncompressed 14-bit (4:4:4) on your HVX200

So after waiting almost a year for the Hydra mod, Juan sells out to 'the man' and kills it - fine, I can live with that.

I settle and buy a second hand Andromeda (which is awesome by the way) - but unfortunately used is the only way to get one now. For some unknown reason Juan has decided to 'punish' me - and any other future second-hand-Andromeda owners - by not allowing them to join the users forum. The same forum that is clogged with non-owners and sellers, is now unavailable to some actual Andromeda users.

I'd like to be able to share footage, Lut's, be able to download the software if I lose the disc, submit questions and answers with my fellow Andromadites (see, I've already contributed a new word :D ) and find other owner/ops for muti-camera shoots. I'm sure I'm not the only person who will be extremely disappointed by Juan and Reel-Stream as future Andros change hands.

Juan, if you're reading this and can explain the thought process behind your actions I'd love to know why. If you're mad because I didn't buy the camera from you, trust me I wanted to. To penalize users after the fact is kind of crappy. Reel-Stream is becoming synonymous with the word "disappointment".

If anyone wants to sell or donate their forum account at http://forum.reel-stream.com, PM me, I'm interested.

What do you mean by "punish"? Can you elaborate on this? I don't know how long it took me to get registered, but I think it was a full day or so to get approval, also, it's a REAL NAME forum, so if you submitted something generic, you will be denied.

'Punish' in that there's no legitimate reason to omit me from the group as far as I can tell and by omitting me I'm penalized for the aforementioned reasons.

I registered using my real name only to discover Andrew's box is permanently full and later received a personal reply from Juan telling me no - with no reason given. I threw myself at his mercy and never got a response.

PS, read some of your posts over at reel-stream Chris. Good stuff. Thanks for the help picking record and render LUTs.

Try registering again. The Reel Stream forum membership nearly doubled in about a few weeks time. Thats a ton of growth. I have a funny feeling they might have some kind of massive growth issue. Nice to know my posts helped! How do you like my custom LUTs?

Whats the point of the Hydra anyway? Now that we know the hvx200 doesnt really have real hd sensor. Their ccd sensor was never really 1920x1080.. i felt screwed when i learned it after i bought it. Their ads were packed with "true-hd" promises. ex1 has a real 1920 chip why not make a hydra for their camera?

Well if the chips of the EX1 are in alignment then you can't make a hydra mod. out of it. The chips have to be offset for the mod. to work... (meaning the fact that the Panasonic uses pixel offsetting to get HD, means it's possible with the HVX200.) So you wouldn't be able to get 2k out of an EX1, all you could get would be 4:4:4 with a mod.; which would be twice to three times better than the current 4:2:0..... but other than 4:4:4, it has nothing to offer. And by true HD they meant a true HD codec, not an HDV codec.

I thought that dead horse was kicked out two years ago. You need to do more research before you make statements like that around here.

Cinemano, If you are an HVX200 owner and don't see the point of the Hydra, then you wouldn't have been a customer anyway... So what's the point of asking?

Since Hydra has been retired, maybe it's time to retire this thread.

I don't want to sound rude, but you clearly haven't done your homework, there is MUCH more to offer. The mode lets you start with absolute RAW data. You had the potential to create a better demosic algorithm than the original camera had. You can capture at 14 bits, which gives greater dynamic range. The potential for lower noise levels, the list goes on. This mod would have been pretty killer. Just look at some of my Andromeda footage, then compare it to stock DVX footage...

Right..... it has all that to offer, but I'm saying it has much more to offer to the HVX200 than the EX1.

I got it!

Well.... at least I think.

Juan said the Andromeda technologie is already at work in a system on the market, right?

Today I saw some tech papers regarding the Cineform RAW workflow.
I think that´s it. Capturing raw data straight of the image sensors, aplying debayering and LTUs - Voila!

O.K. we still have no direct accsess to the HVX sensors (they do that Andromeda picel shifting thing anyways) but the software side of the workflow seems to be pretty the same.

Dear Juan
I like the idea of the Hydra mod.The concept of getting 4:4:4 and uncompressed DVC PRO HD recordings really interests me.However I feel that this mod would be far better if your company also could remove the disappointing 960 horizontal res ,
for a full raster 1080 x 1920 chip.
I bought mine and find the only short fall is the pixel count.Sony and others have full raster 1/3 inch C C D s why not Panasonic.
I,m sure if your engineers can come up with such a great add on the can easily remove the old Chips and replace them with ones as I mentioned.

I can't see this thread going anywhere. Isn't it time the mods closed it and allowedit to die naturally.
Regretfully,
Dave

Agreed, close it. But, ah... have I missed anything in the last thousand posts? Hydra is still a no-go, correct? As much as I'd like to sift through a hundred pages...

The thread WAS dead until you two went fishing for some free posts.

Mods closing threads is completely unnecessary. If you don't want to read it: don't. If you want a thread to die, contribute your silence.
