BEWARE OF QUICKTIME 7.3 with P2 Media

Everything is backed up. That doesn't make it less of a huge pain in the ass and it doesn't excuse Apple from the LIST of problems people are experiencing with the new quicktime.
Actually, it does. If you have an image of your system, all you need to do is kick off a restore, grab a cold one, and come back after a while. At that point, everything should be back to normal.

The point being what?

If you backed up and there issues, then do a clone back.

That takes about a 35 minutes on my production machine.

All these issues are the nature of the beast. Software occasionally has bugs, and its part of the process to take that into account.

35 minutes ! Ha.
Easier said than done.

"should be", but it's not.

I am quite interested in knowing system configuration info for those who are having success with FCP 6.0.2+QT7.3+OS X 10.4.11 with P2 media. I have done the Shane Ross maneuver of trash prefs and zap PRAM multiple times on 2 machines. I still cannot recognize P2. Others never had the problem.

Everything works fine for me:
G5 DP 2.0GHz 2004, FCP 6.02, QT 7.3, OsX 10.4.11.

Also if you want to upgrade to the last FCS update, they require the above OsX and QT..
I was trying not to update to QT 7.3 from the solid 7.1.6, but I have to in order to have Sw update to recognize the new FCS updates.

I can mix 720 and 1080 without any issue by now...but I've not tried to ingest a P2 card since the upgrade.

I don't even think to upgrade to Leopard, even if I got a copy as I bought a MacPro in the grace period.

I jump the gun and upgraded to Leopard and now my P2Log doesnt work, I still have FCP5.0.4 and that works.
Anyone have anyupdates on P2Log?

*UPDATE*
Right after I Posted my last post, I went to the Imagine Products website and found an update for P2log on Leopard.
Works fine now, still using FCP5 on a G4 powerbook.

Oh, come on....

Oh, come on....

Software occasionally has bugs,

Apple's record of updating software of late absolutely STINKS!

For the record my FCP 5.04 is now totally unusable.... all my clips are green, go figure. Will Apple EVEN acknowedge the problem? Like hell it will

Indy.... not a happy bunny :(

running 5.1 on a mac pro w/ quicktime 7.3 and all my p2 works fine, leopard can't preview DVCPROHD files in finder, though they open and play fine in quicktime or FCP.

going to upgrade to 6 next month, will let you know if there's an issue. transition was alright, except protools doesn't work :(

I'm using Leopard 10.5., quictime 7.3 and FCP 6.0.2 on my G4 powerbookand I can preview my clips using quickview in the finder with no problem.

I've decided to leave my 24" iMac at FCP 6.0.1 and Quicktime 7.2 after reading this thread and the P2 import issue thread which Is a problem I do have on my powerbook now.

Thank goodness for the dvxuser forums. I went in yesterday to re cut some footage for a new commercial. I couldn't do anything with the xml or even import the quicktime mov. files. I came here, did a search and here I am. I archived and went backward to quicktime 7.1.6. However, now all I get is white screen and audio.
I am running Tiger and FCP Studio 2 on a G5 quad 2.5. FCP won't start so I am assuming that I have to re-install FCP. That being said, I should probably do a fresh install of OS as well.
My question is this, Should I get Leopard and re- install everything up to Quicktime 7.1.6, or does Leopard still have bugs that need to be addressed and just keep Tiger?
Thanks,
steve

Not certain what you mean by "leopard can't preview DVCPROHD files in finder . . . ."

on my G4 powerbook with FCP, i could go in to my capture folder, click on any one of those files and they would appear in finder (when in column mode). I did a transfer to Leopard and they don't show up in finder anymore, although if I double click on them, they open and play just fine in quicktime. FCP works fine as well.

Tiger or leopard with FCP 5

Tiger or leopard with FCP 5

Just wondering people's thoughts after reading this thread on upgrading to leopard to use with FCP 5.

Would you stay put with Tiger or make use of Leopard?

Stay with an older QT or upgrade?

I'm using a G4 Powerbook (new to me) and just curious to the best setup?

I'll probably update to FCP6 as soon as money will allow as it seems to be a better system for many noted reasons.

Thanks,

Tai
