25p gain-lock technique

hi all, i am quite new here, and do not yet own an Hv20, however i would really like to ask about the 25p mode for the camera, in regards to the workaround techniques that are applied to prevent auto-gain from happening.

are they the same as 24p mode? i am in a PAL country, and therefore would like to remain at 25p. the tutorials i have studied seem to be for 24p, however this may be confusing only because i have not applied myself to understanding them properly. if so, please forgive my ignorance and/or impatience.

does it take long to do the workaround, and must it be done every time? is there a four line 1/ 2/ 3/ 4/ "quickstart" for the technique of the light-screen held to the lens?

also, is it possible to shoot at 25p with 1/25 shutter speed?

best regards Jasper

The best thing for you to do will be, if you still don't have one, buying an SD card for your camcorder. So that when you click photo button half way, as described in the tutorials, you can see the information you need to control your exposure.

And yes, It is possible to use 1/25 shutter speed with 25p

cheers for that..

yup, the card is essential, i have a couple of them already for other equipment. but, like i said, i do not have an HV20 at the moment, just enquiring.

i thought perhaps the cinemode might only work in 24p, and that the workaround might only work in 24p.. you know, the workaround of shining the white LCD screen directly into lens, and taking notes?

anyway, as regards the gain-lock workaround, if there is no problem with wanting to use 25p rather than 24p, thats great. :)

i guess it would be safe to assume that the workaround techniques work best in Cinemode, and therefore only in 24p?

if so, then the HV20 is not for me, because i work at PAL specs, and i very much need to keep the workflow at 25 fps, due to issues around including animated content, etc etc.

oh well no HV20 for me.

thanks vsansal.. i must seem a bit silly, asking questions about workflow before even owning an Hv20.. just trying to get a feel for what i should truly invest in at this time.
cheers :)

You would be silly if you didn't ask these questions before investing that much money on a camcorder. I personally started this camcorder craziness by asking questions like you did 3 years ago. So don't worry a bit.
