XHA1 built-in microphone

I am looking at the Canon XHA1 and I am ultimately going to be getting proper sound accessories.

However, I did have a question or two about the on-board mic, which is described as a "built in electret condenser microphone with cross-layout directivity and a directional angle of approximately 90 degrees. The microphone amplifier comes with a sensitivity selector. Attenuation level (20 dB) can be switched. Microphone mode can be set to "Normal" or "High sensitivity". "Normal," "Voice" or "Wind screen" can also be set as the microphone mode."

I was hoping someone with some experience in sound could tell me in what conditions (indoor / outdoor) the built-in XHA1 mic would fare best and if it would provide "sufficient" quality under any particular circumstances (eg. outdoor low wind / indoor dialogue).

Thanks for your time!

Setting aside what you most likely already know about the built in mic, its going to perform better indoors. There you can control somewhat the ambient noise to help the situation.

I haven't used it in anything other than "normal" however I wouldn't expect too much from this onboard mic. If "voice" is really required better use an external mic close to the speaker. The "wind" selection will surely cut out too much, better use a decent wind gag. You'll need the attenuation for a disco or similar loud source as it doesn't tolerate high noise. Basically don't expect much!
