selling my a1 for cheap

To the OP... what made you decide to switch from the A1 to the HVX200?
Quite frankly, I've seen footage from both, and much to my surprise, A1 footage matches up quite well... of course it's HDV, but... for the price difference, it seems worth it...

to answser both questions,i paid i think under 3K 2,800?? fotoconnection.com where i got it from. i was eehh at first with my credit card, but it came through i have my warranty thru canon, its reg, 100% full legit. they have the hvx for 3,400. that is with no warranty, with a warranty it is 3,600...still good azz deal

Well the HVX on fotoconnection.com for $3,400 says nothing in the "what's in the box" section about an included 16gb P2 card that would normally be included, so for another 1k you could buy a 16gb P2 card from B&H which in total, would still be a good deal, but not as good as it may seem at first glance.

Grey market for sure, and god knows where originally from. Its cheap for sure, but I think you would find that if you had a warranty issue you may be up **** creek with out a paddle even if you paid the extra.

The a1 was in the box, when you speak with fotconnection they assure (even tho very rude) that everything is ok. they gave me the ups tracking number, they threw in accessories. my contract with canon is still good. i can call them, ask for tech support and i'm good. oh, and they have a 10 trial n return policy!!

These accessories wouldn't happen be a wide/telephoto lense, battery, filters and/or cheap tripod is it? Those things are what gray market dealers always give out and they're always worthless. Here's an even simpler test: if they try to talk you into "upgrading" or spending anymore than the advertised price when you call in (which you shouldn't have to do in the first place) they're gray market. Authorized dealers never do that.

Regarding the warranty with Canon, you might have gotten lucky. Basically Canon does not care where you purchased your camera from as long as the serial # matches the territory that the warranty belongs to. They don't automatically "flag" a dealer as unauthorized and deny you the warranty. That's why when you register for a warranty the name of the store where you bought it from is an optional field. You happened to get a camera that's a US model and have not been registered yet. Of course, the nature of grey market goods is that you have no idea where these cameras are coming from; you might end up with a used camera passed off as new or a non US model.

Now, with the HVX, the free 16GB P2 card is only shipped to authorized dealers for them to put in the box. I really doubt fotoconnection would receive any shipment and I doubt they would honor the promotion because that's a big hit on their profit margin. Best to give them a call and ask specifically. If they tell you no, then that $3400 HVX just became a $4000 investment when you have to buy a 4GB or 8GB cards. And you know that they're not an authorized dealer so there's a chance your warranty won't be valid.

Bull Sh*t!

It's called upselling or suggestive sales and it most certainly is part of professional sales practice at all establishments.

Denying him the sale at the advertised price is deceptive and illegal as all hell, but that's a different story than merely selling and making suggestive sales.

fotoconnection.com is shady from what I've heard and my personal opinion would be they aren't to be trusted.

With that said, if you camera is registered with Canon and has a warranty then all is fair!
