Looking for obscure 80's music

I'm looking for some inspiration for a script idea I've been working on. Who can help me with some obscure 80's bands in the sort of New Wave vein. Something like A Flock of Seagulls or a-ha, but not something that you'd find on Time Life's New Wave 80's CD set. I'm looking for deep cuts by people that the main stream never caught on to.

Likewise, any obscure 80's bands in the pop vein, preferably where they say the name of the band during the "breakdown" portion of the song (example: Roxette) would be great too.

Let's take it back a couple of decades!

Thanks for the help.

I love that old 80's New Wave stuff.

What about these?

Oxo - "Whirly Girl"
Romeo Void - "Never Say Never"
The Vapors - "Turning Japanese"
Animotion - "Obsession"
Bronski Beat - "Why?"
The Dream Academy - "Life in a Northern Town"
Monroes - "What Do All the People Know"
Kajagoogoo - "Too Shy"
Little Girls - "Earthquake Song"
Scritti Politti - "Perfect Way"

The 80's had so many one and two hit wonders, it's hard to think of things right off the topof your head that's not super mainstream.

Good stuff. Thanks for the replies. I've got some listening to do. :)

Keep posting as they come to you.

Asking someone who listened to this shite in the 80's (Still do) to give you obscure bands is hard. Trying to stay somewhat obscure (Even if the bands are popular; or are they?):

I'm completely having the same problem. In some ways I've never left the 80's, so I'm going through my collection and it all feels pretty main stream ... but I don't know if it really is/was, or if that's just the way it seems because I've been listening to it for twenty some-odd years. So I opened it up to the group.
And you guys haven't let me down. :dankk2:

It's hard to think obscure since they've probably already left my memory bank. Right now all that comes to my mind are Devo & Talking Heads but they weren't so obscure.

And what exactly is the 80s sound, anyway? X-Ray Spex <> Elvis Costello <> Duran Duran <> Don Henley <> Communards etc etc etc.

And nobody is Lene Lovich! :)
