Shooting in America - Viewing in Europe

I will be using the HVX 200 for the entirety of the snowboard season. I will be freelancing all of my shots to a company in Europe. Since there is the barrier of PAL and NTSC - what would be the best way to go around this?

Is there cameras the switch PAL - NTSC?

I've used a filter in Final Cut to convert shots from PAL - NTSC, but it wasn't flawless - these shots need to be perfect.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a ton.

In your case, you might want to consider a PAL HVX-200. The HVX is not switchable. The Sony EX-1 is, but with it's rolling shutter issues and 35Mbps long GOP format, it would not be my first choice to shoot snowboarding.

Shoot with the format of final display.

So if you are shooting for Europe (regardless of where you are), you should shoot with a PAL camera.

Isn't there a setting in Final Cut to convert 24p to 25p with the 4% speed up? It shouldn't be a huge issue if you're shooting in one of the HD modes.

Anytime you convert footage rates like that, you are going to see motion artifacting of some kind. Top of the iine conversion boxes like the Snell & Wilcox Alchemist minimize these artifacts but they are still there. Software conversion usually will also have motion artifacts. I think that this is what elapheysal was alluding to in his post when he/she said, "these need to look perfect".

PAL cameras are not that much more and I am sure that he/she will make his/her money back in a matter of this one job (I would hope?).

Well, thank you for the help. I am shooting a bunch of riders, but one of the riders is filming for a company out of Europe. So its like - CRAP - what do I do you know?

I've converted before from some New Zealand PAL footage, but couldn't get it perfect, and was forced to add a filter and some effects to kind of hide the artifacts.

As for the SONY EX 1 - I don't know if I understand the 30 Mbps and GOP formatting. I've never used this camera because Panasonic got me hooked after my DVX.

OK NEW QUESTION - FILM RELATED. 16mm. This company mainly shoots 16mm - would that be 25fps? and therefore mess things up also? Or would shooting with film solve this problem?

Thanks everyone.

The best way is to put it on tape and send it to a real professional copyhouse. We usually send DigiBeta tapes to BavariaFilms in Munich. They have massive machines and it costs money, but the stuff looks as it should and it is well worth it.
In software I have never seen a conversion that works.
If then maybe that Nattress plugin in the Appleworld can do it.

Can't you shot at 25fps and put it onto a region free dvd for distribution?
Or are you wanting to air this in different countries?
