This is the first film I will have released in 2 years online for download since all I have made were features. I need to start making more shorts!

Plot:
(I'm going to keep the sypnosis short)
Alan Fung and Sammi Tsang, 2 lovers who have shared a strong romance for 3 months, have learned that one another is, in fact, married to others. The couple discusses what the next step in their relationship should be and they come to the conclusion that they must break the news to their respected spouses.

I would classify the film as a dark romance but that's just my view on it. The film is another one of my asian cinema influenced films. It started with inspiration from Wong Kar Wai's "In the Mood for Love" and it slowly because something pretty original and hopefully enlighting.

Running Time: 24 minutes.

Language: In Cantonese with english subtitles.

The film will be available for download on my site, www.eddielebron.com, tomorrow night at 10PM but I will provide a link tomorrow. Here are a few stills from the project.

Reviews for the film thus far have been amazing so hopefully people here will enjoy it!

I;m going to have to stay up till 1 in the morning for me to see this for i am in Toronto.

Can't wait, stilsl are gorgeous man!

Wow, I'm really looking forward to this one! Can you give us some specs? Like which camcorder was used? What did you use for editing? Etc.

Thanks!

I used a DX100A for filming, an Audio-Technica AT4073a for audio, and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0. I enjoy using Pro 2.0 for personal projects since I can edit pretty quickly with it and have access to everything I need (I may use Vegas and Avid more down the road though).

The shoot was three 8 hour days, 2 days for interiors in Manhattan and 1 day for exteriors in Chinatown. The only post-color correction work done on the film was diffusing the whites so that the image has a glow to it.

Hope for more questions!

Hey, just checked out the film..

It was really good, the cinematography was really somethin.

What camera did you use?

really good i liked it....

its hard to not be cliché with love stories and i feel for the most part you were original, however some parts seemed cliché.

i really liked the cinematography, however i though some of the audio had some gain or hissing sound to it.

over all really good, it kept me interested!

kudos

Thanks!

The hiss was actually due to a VERY irritating heater hiss. I did my best to noise gate it but that heater had it in for us.....

For those that are having issues downloading it from the website, here is a direct link to the video:

Enjoy and comment!

This was a wonderful film. It was very compelling and well written. The actors did an excellent job and really pulled the story along. The colors and lighting was also good. When a film is this interesting the length is not a factor and that's what happened with this film. It was 24 minutes, but it could easily be turned into a feature, because it's such a character-driven piece. You feel for everybody that's intertwined in the story. Good job.

Also, I like your poster designs and website. Who does that for you?

I really like your indoor lighting; it was very well done. I don't really care for the excessively warm skin tone outside though, maybe you can tone that down. The slow zoom in each scene was nice, although somewhat overused.

The story itself was way too melodramatic for me; every development felt so heavy that it dulls after a while. Even in a drama there should be lighter moments but from the first frame every character was weighted down. I didn't like the way Alan and Sammi met; that scene felt contrived in that she would suddenly warms up to a stranger like that, so it sticks out as a IITS moment. Your actors seemed kind of stiff to me, especially the male lead, because they all deliver their lines at the same slow pace, presumably to make it more dramatic. One thing that takes me out of the film is that they all seemed too young to be married (at least for the length of time that this film implies). Tony with the dyed hair looked more like a triad gang boss than a hard working husband.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

The website and posters are designed by a pal of mine who handles all my design work. I'm hoping he does more freelance soon.

Oddly enough, jade, everyone in the film is much older than they appear. I went with actors that would appear a bit youthful so it hinted that the fact the two couples married too young (IE. during college/grad school). I guess they looked TOO young, eh? Also the actor playing Tony...that's his real hair!:P.

Keep the comments coming!

Holly shi* that's good.

I loved this.

The accents sounded like me speaking Tagalog but it works as that is the whole point I suppose.

I loved this film and will watch it again and probably again.

The colors and composition were superb.

The sound was well done and not obtrusive in anyway.

The acting was also very well done and in some roles I would even say it was fantastic.

The shot selection and editing was great.

I might only suggest you take out the reaction shot at 19:13 as it looks a bit contrived.

My wife on the other hand said it didn't strike her as such and that it fit.

A++++++++ for you my friend!

I'm glad you liked it and thanks for the comments!

As for a "Loveless 2", I'm actually considering it....HOWEVER, it would probably be a different tragic love story with different characters within the same universe. It would either be Cantonese, Korean, or Japanese (but for the sake of the film, I will probably stick with Cantonese).

WoW..... That's Great and that sucks at the same time as I wanted to know what happened to the last couples.

Did they get back together, did they all break up, did she have the baby....

Do you know what happened to them?

Did you follow through with your story line?

Hey, you never know! I might work with the same couple.

I know everything that happens to the couples and what the fate of the relationships are so perhaps I might make a short based on that. I didn't think showing what happened was necessary since the story pretty much serves it's full purpose in the final scene.

Right... and as art, the imagination is almost always best.

My guess would be the last couple stayed together and worked it out and the bitter chick was left on her own but she got support from the baby daddy.

How'd I do? :D

Exactly. There is so much fun in allowing the viewer to guess what would be next to occur.

Hey, it's your guess! If you feel that's what happens next, then that's what happens!

Thanks! Hopefully more people can watch and comment!

As of now, the "Loveless" page on my site is currently playing a flash version of the film. The web designer is still trying to fix the bugs since there is no dock to play/pause:

http://eddielebron.com/loveless.html

Thus, the best way to see it is via the QT alternative link:

http://platinumcinema.com/ClearHidden/LovelessHQ.mov

Once the site issue is resolved, the page will be expanded with special content for the film (bloopers, commentary, etc).

I begin festival submissions this week so let's see where that goes!
