Cinevate Flip - First units shipped!

B, we'll open them up for general purchase once the pre-order folks have had a chance to take their option...so about 7 days :-)

The emails to reservation and pre-flip purchasers have all been sent with instructions to excercise the purchase option. We're pretty excited here about these things :-)

Wait did I read that correctly? You are making an attachment directly to the hpx500 so you don't have to buy a lens, other than the 35mm lens?

Yep. We would have done it a long time ago, but the flip optics package needed to be 100% finalized...and of outstanding quality. They are, so we move on!

HVX200 with Brevis35 HD is so popular with my rental offer in Japan and if I can provide the rental package with HPX and future relay lens would be super.

Now that I know Cinevate is getting heir own HPX, I'm so happy that I made the decision to buy HPX. I'm going to convince a fellow filmmaker company to pick this choice for their next project.

Thanks Kaku :-) Just a note of thanks all for the amazing show of support for the flip. At the price point we're letting these go, I'm not surprised though!

Merry Christmas :-)

Just had to mention that my Brevis Flip and 3 of the 4 lenses I ordered will be arriving tomorrow around noon! So excited I can't sleep. It's like Christmas when I was a little kid!

And thanks for being so patient:-) By Monday we'll be all caught up with the flip orders, and be back to our normal lead time. In general that's been 2-3 business days from the order being placed, to the system at your doorstep.

Dennis,
I'm thinking of purchasing a flip. Does it have any edge to edge effect? How far on an HVX must you zoom in for 35mm Cine FOV? How does the x/y adjustment work? I'm looking to use this on my SG and maybe a future Brevis (the need for speed will always be there).

Tim, the flip unit and optics are engineered specifically with spherical aberration compensation as part of their design. That said, there are cams out there like the EX1 that show distressing SA in the stock lens, beyond the Z75 zoom point or so. That camera will need some special treatment when used with cinema lenses (requiring more zoom in).

That said, our tests here with XH-A1 (using CF1Le) and HV20 (using CF1) show very consistent edge to edge sharpness, and a very flat response with regard to light fall-off. The same is being reported by Matt Jeppsen using the Z1u, and all of our HVX users. You may wish to check our forums as Paul Nordin/Jason Mitchell have been using the flip with the HVX/PL mount lenses. Their comments are very encouraging. We'll have back to back charts later this week using a set of OSGs and Ambi system from DSC labs.

The XY adjust is done at two points, but now keeps the flip achromat relatively lens-centric, again to keep SA at a low level. Although it is designed with the Brevis in mind, we do provide 62mm threads for third party applications.

Cheers :-)

Dennis ,
on the third party issue - esp re the SGPro. How far away can the brevis flip unit be from the GG of the other adapter and how critical is this?
Sounds like that could be a big stumbling block if its designed for the Brevis.

I'll be getting mine on Monday so I hope I have time to post some results soon.

Lenny
