"Will Work 4 Food" sequence sample

I shot and edited this documentary that will air on A&E HD Summer 2008.
I used the Canon XH-A1 with the Canon Wide angle lens, and Final Cut Studio 2.
Shot in 1080 HD, 60i

I know it looks shitty because it's on MySpace and limited to 100 MB. However
we will have the good version on our site soon enough.

Let me know what you think?

Enjoy

Thank you very much. This was actually my first time shooting, and my first time editing.
I'm a newb that just so happen to get a lucky break.

Hey James!

Big ups for the subject you chose to capture with your camera and on your first try.
Any video raising awareness of such everyday problems is worth praising.

Shooting and editing wise, as a newb there is still a long road ahead of you, but never the less I would really like to see the whole film!

I'm surprised that A&E HD will allow all the footage from an A1. Usually they want 80% of the footage from a higher end HD camera.

I was surprised myself.
However the production manager and the Director of this film have a great relationship.
So I guess in a way it's still "who you know" in this industry.

But yes, I was taken back when he told me the deal and handed over the paper work
for me to sign to make this legal.

The other thing to remember is that there is a show out there called "Intervention"
and another one called "Paranormal State" and they are both shot with a combo
of the Canon XH-A1 and the XL-H1 so maybe their standards have dropped.

I thought they were using DVX's for Intervention....?

Also, did the A1 freeze up? What happened and how did you resolve the issue?

The LCD was frozen solid. It thawed ok, but while we were out it was unusable.
And it seemed as if, after about 3 hours of being outside in that weather
the zoom started to slow down on it's own.

Thanks.

And Intervention was here in Minnesota shooting a friend of a friend who was
a meth addict who lost her child and lived with her parents. So I went with my friend
to visit her (because I knew the film crew was there) and I just took note of all the
gear they used. They had (2) XL-H1's and (2) XH-A1's (4) operators and (1) producer.
She thought she was in a documentary about drug addiction... Until!
