AJ-PCS060G p2 store dump to external HDD??

Hi everyone, just trying to get a workflow in the field without getting a firestore and not missing shooting time using the camera to dump P2 to external Hard Drive...

if I bought the P2 Store 60gb AJ-PCS060G could I dump the contents of the P2 store onto a 250 or 500gb external HDD?? it would be much easier than bringing the MAC laptop out and the storage amount would be great!

so basically in the field my workflow would be: P2 CARD -> P2 STORE AJ-PCS060G -> 500GB EXTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE.

does anyone know if this would work? I was going to do P2 CARD -> EXTERNAL HDD via the HVX thru its firewire but that would mean downtime for the camera when I could be shooting!!

thanks for the help!

Doesn't work that way.

You could make it work that way though, if you used a USB2 On The Go hard disk to copy the footage off of the P2 Store.

Hi BG, the USB2 On The Go hard disk... is this a particular brand or type of external HDD? thanks for the info

Many brands offer it. It's a special protocol for USB drives, basically the "one-touch back-up" systems. The formal name is USB On The Go.

One word of caution though -- I'd make sure the specs for the drive you buy actually say "USB On the Go" or "USB OTG" -- I've seen several "one-touch backup" drives that simply have a button on the drive that triggers special software that you install on the host PC that automatically copies a directory you specify. That functionality would be useless for use with the HVX in the manner that USB OTG provides.

this was my idea, too.

i tried it and after a while the otg drive showed a errorlight.
with a hvx200 its working.

any idea?

No... never tried it, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Unless the P2 Store doesn't work as a USB Mass Storage Compliant (MSC) device? I guess that's possible. But I would have thought it would work.

maybe, because the p2store is a small computer with a linux boot partitition?
i dont know.

it would be nice, somebody could try it, too.

From the USB port, the P2 Store looks like a stack of partitions, most empty until you transfer cards to them. Perhaps the OTG drive was confused by the multiple empty partitions.

This is an interesting approach. I'd like to hear more about the results
