Just finished my first semester classes this week and this was my final piece for one of them. We had to make an autobiographical/reflection film and this is what i came up with. This is what the footage I posted a little while ago was shot for. Any and all feedback appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

That's strong visual work. Sometimes the sound effects seemed heavy handed, but very effective. You should be very proud of your efforts.

Dude, you got a lot of talent. You are going somewhere, good.

Now, what did you do in terms of sound?
I didn't really get the story, maybe show some of the interviews. I wanted to see hwo you lit them that's all lol.
Yes, sound was so good, and crisp.

Your shots, wow. Unreal. Amazing. Not only the composition was superb, but the lens you used, and the crushed backgrounds in all the shots were top notch, and crazily sick!

Sgpro, or letus? If it is the letus, then you can count on me on getting it.

Thanks for sharing. But again, how did you that widescreen so wide and nice...just cropping it in AE?

Thanks guys.

Como, I just exported out of Quicktime with those pixel dimensions and set it to crop the rest out.

It was all shot on the Brevis, sometimes a little under appreciated around here I think..

Your parents better get you some big xmas gifts for that one.

That was completely professional work man. Great sound design and use of footage. I always love your stuff. Keep up the good work!

oh wow. Thats really all I can say, oh wow. BEAUTIFUL! Loved it! I just sent the link to my mom, I know she will like it too.

Ok, on to the questions:
What lenses did you use along with the brevis? What method did you use for the aspect ratio? What technique did you use for the slow motion?
Also, can you shoot me a PM telling me where you got the film burns?

Once again, GREAT short.

Thanks,
Dory

I think also it was nice, in editing and sound design and very nice relaxing images.
But sometimes you had a bass sound and I keept feeling that something dangerous was coming to happen, but it didn't.

Well done.

Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4
Nikon 50mm f/1.8
Nikon 70-210mm f/4-5.6

I shot squeeze on the DVX and cropped in Vegas to 2.40:1. For the slow motion I shot 60i, imported into After Effects and slowed to 40%.

Thanks for taking a look!

Crop the rest out?

Could you explain how you do it?

Do you shoot in widescreen?
Does how you export it from the editing program have anything to do with how it's gonna end up after you export with quicktime?

man.. that was beautiful :) Great job, thanks for sharing this. It made me all fuzzy inside.

Awsome stuff youngster, I'm very confident your parents are proud of ya.

Hope you don't mind if I try to mimic your style it is my prefered style and flow for Documentary work.

The whole thing is a joy to watch. It's like looking into a window
and through this window you get a view of someone's mind.
I love it ...

As D ODELL mentioned , the sound composition at times seemed ' not so appropriate ' for the type of film
only because some effects did feel more spooky than not,,,

on the other hand had this been a resume' reel then you show you could do it
by using the effect in a few seconds of footage that matches the spooly effect,,, Know what I'm saying ?

Just an opinion, I still like it's just fine.
I'd like to get as good as you are right now, God knows I'm not there yet...
BTW it's yours you can do it anyway YOU like no matter WHO says WHAT... CREATIVE FREEDOM is what I call it

AnyHoot,,, I hope to meet you someday (before you're so famous that it's out of the question) as I intend on moving to VA in a couple of years.

Cheers Kido

I shoot squeeze for an anamorphic image, then matte to 2.40:1 in Vegas. I export as a anamorphic widescreen .avi and then use quicktime pro to encode. In QTPro I tell it exactly what frame size (in pixels) I want and then tell it to crop out the rest.

what kind of mic did you use?

Audio Technica 4073a

And to address the sound design, I'm glad you all got that feeling. Moving away from home for the first time is a bit scary. I definitely was uncertain as to what was around the corner and although fear does in no way dominate my outlook on life, there is certainly some uneasiness that acompanied moving to Richmond alone. I wanted this reflected.

I was seriously considering buying the 4073a and this pretty much convinces me to go ahead and do it.. any problems or comments on the mic ?
