A1 Goes to Africa!

This is a ten minute promotional video that I did for a non-profit group. They help the deaf community in Africa get education. Its nothing special but I though you might like to see the A1s work in Ghana.

The site is still under construction, so all the buttons don't work yet.

Just click on "work" and wait about ten seconds.....

Hey thanks for the kind words everyone.

I used the vivid RGB preset and thats pretty much it. No CC or anything fancy in post.

There is not much art direction needed in Ghana, just point the camera and you will have something cool in the shot.

Love it! Very inspiring- I'm headed to Tanzania this coming summer, and this made me quite giddy to get down there. Some cool shots, and beautiful subjects.

Can't say I agreed with the music choices though.

Thats the music we could come up with with no budget.

I actually like the music overall though. I really like the opening and ending music, the client didn't want a sad typical Africa piece. Thanks for the reply though.

Looks great! You say you used vividrgb, what was your frame rate? and did you use a DOF adapter for any of the shots? (some had really nice DOF, and I wondered if it was with just the factory lens) Also, did you use a wide angle adapter at all?

Sorry for all the questions, but I really liked the way it looks and would like to get that feel from my XHA1.

Thanks

No prob, petro, feel free to ask questions.

The frame rate was 24. No adapter or wide angle was used on this piece, just the factory lens. Only a few shots have a shallow DOF. But the shallow DOF was simply achieved by being close to the subject, zooming in, and having the background far away.

Hey, im looking at doing something like this, and im really thinking of getting an A1, but after my XM2, i just no.

How sturdy was the camera in those situations?

Cheers,
Nathaniel

Well, I love the A1s lens and its picture. I definitely do not regret purchasing it.

This one has traveled with me to Africa, Aruba, and across the country. It has held up well overall and has been quite sturdy.

I did have to clean the heads recently though after it started dropping frames during import. Canon also said my heads were "worn". Which surprised me, being that I have had it about a year.

So thats my experience with it. I do recommend getting a camera deck if you get the A1, thats what I did to decrease wear and tear.

Thanks for the info Shinobi...I like what you've done. Also, I've checked out the website and its a neat project to have done.

Is there anychance you can upload a FULL HD res version of it. if you need webspace, just pm me, im sure i can give you some free space for the vid.

Cheers,
Nathaniel

Shinobi, where in Ghana were you located?

I'm doing almost the exact same shoot: non-profit, Africa, 2 weeks, XH A1.
I'll be in Ghana. Jan 13-28th

Any tips on dealing with kids, locales, etc.
Chances of getting mugged? lol.

Any info = BIG help.

I might be able to upload a higher res version sometime soon.

I was in Mampong, Ghana. It was an awesome place. The locals are very nice and I say there is a very slim chance of being mugged. They will probably just ask for money politely. Don't give it to everyone that asks or you will be broke by the third day!

The kids and everyone will love you there, they are usually very cooperative when you film too.

It is very humid there, so I put the A1 in a plastic bag, then in the case.

Have Fun!
