Starting Monday 12/03/07 Every HVX package will include a free 16gig P2 card. Hot off the press from Abel Cine Tech.

If Panasonic has any sense at all--it'll be bundled. The fulfillment times for the free cards during past offers were abysmal.

Just got it confirmed -- the card is *in the box*, not a mail-in rebate.

Note: this is for USA dealers only; other territories of Panasonic are free to come up with their own promotions but Panasonic USA is putting the 16GB card in the box.

Note 2: this also means that our Canadian friends (or, well, others too) who buy from an authorized dealer in the USA will actually get the free card, as it's in the box. They won't have warranty coverage in their home countries though.

No gray market product in the USA will have this. Panasonic authorized dealers are actually opening up the boxes and putting cards in the existing stock. So if you buy from an authorized dealer, you get a $900 16GB card in the box. If you buy gray-market, you don't. Simple as that.

It amounts to effectively a $900 price cut, which places the HVX at about 25% cheaper than the EX1. That creates market segmentation between the two products and, if Sony stops offering the rebate 8GB card after Dec. 30th, the price gap becomes more like 30% or 35%. That's a significant difference and shuffles the market up a bit.

A new camera? Well, we always want new, but I doubt they're going to pull one out of their hats overnight. :)

Yeah yeah. You know me: see a new cam, get sad about HVX, shoot something and realize it's satisfactory for the time being; let me whine and moan!

I've been wondering how long it'll be before you get the itch and think nothing less than an EX1 will do. And then you'll think back to the big-screen projection from the HVX you saw, and then... :)

The Sony EX1 extra 8 GB card offer is valid through March 26, 2008. I agree that Panny's inclusion of the P2 card starts to differentiate the price between the two cameras.

Do we have to buy directly from panasonic to get that deal or will all resellers have that option. I just about bought one that has the rebate. If I did how long and how much of a pain is it to get the card?

LOL. That predictable eh? Gimme a week and then I'm over it. Come on, it's NEW. We all like NEW things.

Tell Pana to give me a free 16gb card. =\

that sucks men I just bought my camera in January 07, all I got was a lousy 8GB Card. Well and Barry's book (that was worth it)
