Check to see if the site is a scam, you can do so here: http://www.resellerratings.com/rlist-s1-n2.html

Just find your site and read the reviews. The one site that I find comes up in these fourms too often is Best Price Cameras.

And if you do find a good deal from a good source, post it here; the threads are over populating the fourm.

So moderators, either sticky this or make a new section for Canon Prices. Because I feel this should be discussion on the camera itself and not the prices.

Sites that are known scammers:

Best Price Cameras
EXPRESSCAMERAS

Want me to add another site? Just reply to the thread with a site name.

Some scam sites usually add notes to try to trick potential customers into buying from their site. On this advertisment they mention so many things that shouldn't be necessary if they were a legit seller. Elsewhere on the site they keep saying that you can call for service. If they don't have disclaimers on their advertising, visible restrictions or a legend icon (such as an asterisk*) odds are, it's a scam. :D

Watch out for other sites like Rating Planet, which rate well known trusted sellers high (such as B&H Photo Video) and also rate sites such as EXPRESSCAMERAS high. For now, just trust Reseller Ratings.

If you're still unsure, ask about the site here in this thread.

Full Compass is looking good right now. Also Ritz Camera isn't too bad, they have the best warranty & accident protection though, pricey but worth it.

thought I'd pass this along, from Stephen in Canon tech support:

While www.newegg.com is not an Authorized Canon Dealer, this camcorder
should qualify for any applicable rebates and full warranty support if
the following prerequisites are met:

1. The product is new.

2. The product has its warranty card.

3. The product has its original box.

Newegg is looking good...

That's a GREAT site, but it's not always up to date.

For example J and K has some sort of separate phone staff that deals with Infinity Photo, which are crooks. But J and K who sells via Ebay, at roughly the same prices as B&H, are legit (99.9% rating on Ebay, with hundreds of orders).

Or one could just buy from B&H, who are the best, and what everyone is compared to.

I'm the proud new owner of an XH A1 from newegg. Cheapest deal around and I had my $250 rebate back in less than 30 days.

Amazon.com is looking as the cheapest right now, $3,209.99 after the $250.00 rebate. Free shipping as well.

Just bought an A1 through J&R for $3,329.99 BEFORE the $250 rebate. I contacted Canon and asked if this was an authorized internet canon dealer and she said "YES". they list Authorized Dealers by state on the site but only stores not internet dealers. Don't let this limited list prevent you from asking if an internet dealer is authorized as well. This was the best price I found from a reputable dealer.

BUYER BEWARE:!!! - The rebate form clearly states "Only purchases by an end-user customer from an Authorized Canon U.S.A. Digital Video Dealer with store name and purchase date, digital video model and price paid clearly legible to be valid". I've read a few places on the net were people got skewered because their rebate was turned down. Go to Canon's website for contact info and a PDF of the rebate form.

Happy shooting!

What is currently the best price of the AH X1?

I have seen it for $3,329.99 minus the $250 rebate.

Has anyone found and authorized dealer for less?

Abe's of Maine has the XH-A1 list for 3259 not incleding the 250 rebate and they appear to be Canon certified, anyone have any experiences with them???

Best price I've found is same as yours. At B&H. Very reputable place, with a live, walk-in store, which is always a good sign to me. They ship free, and no sales tax outside of NY. Rebates honored.

I just ordered my A1 yesterday at 3,349,95 and today it just dropped the price too $3,299.95. Booo! Anybody know the reason for the price drop? Now im getting nervous that they will come out with an A2 or something new soon.

Also, what do you all think about a warranty? Have any of you had any issues with the camera through wear and tear?

I bought mine from Samy's Camera. $3500 - $250 with the rebate. I got the rebate back in about a month. $3500 before rebate seems to be the going legitimate price right now. Be warned, as is was stated, if you find a deal too good to be true - it probobly isn't.

Hello All,
I am new to this site as a member, but I read the comments of the members all the time and find you all to be very knowledgeable. I am in the market for a camera. I'm torn between the HVX200 and the A1.

Price is a concern of mine, but not the primary one. The HVX200 seems to be the most popular camera used by indy. filmmakers and all of the footage that I've seen is clear and full of color. All of the A! footage seems flat. Is it possible to get the same level of color saturation with the A!? Is it done in post? Does anyone have any footage that shows richer color?

I need help...

The A1 in-camera cannot approach how saturated you can get an HVX in-camera. The A1, at maximum color saturation, about matches an HVX when the HVX is in its middle position.

In post you can boost the color all you want.
