Stolen HVX - Please keep an eye out!

My house was broken into on Friday night, and the thieves took my HVX - I don't suppose they'll have any clue what it is, and what it's worth, but I suppose it might eventually find its way back into circulation and I'd appreciate it if members here kept half an eye out for it...

It's a PAL model, with two 16GB cards installed, and it was taken in its Peli case (a black 1520). There was also a spare battery and the mains charger in the case with it, along with some lens cleaning bits and pieces. The cards have lots of footage of an outdoor event on the harbour-front in Plymouth (UK). There aren't any distinguishing marks on it that I can remember, and I'm currently trying to work out how to find the serial number (as far as I know it only appears on the underside of the viewfinder). I will contact Panasonic to see if they have the details from when I registered it, and I'll post the serial here if I can get it from them.

Anyway, thanks in advance for keeping an eye out.

Hi Tom. Very sorry to hear your bad news.

Can you tell us where your located?

May I also suggest you head over to dvinfo dot net and post similar.

I Feel sorry for you. It must have had a hard time.
Hope you find it.
I'm saving for a HVX and if i ever got it stolen i would really get mad.

i'm based in london, will keep my eyes peeled for you,
thats bad luck mate, know the chances are slim but here's to hoping

Dirtbags! :thumbdown
I'm not near your neck of the woods, but I'd love to shoot those arses and I don't mean with my HVX!
Did you have insurance?
Best of luck buddy, we all wish you the best!

My sympathies. If you had homeowner's or renter's insurance, sometimes they will cover it, even if you didn't specifically add it. I would downplay it being a "pro" camera and think more about the "sumer" part.

Also, is there any disadvantage to posting the entire serial number on sites? Maybe just post the last few digits? (I don't know, just suggesting).

I'm thinking of getting a full-size safe, the kind gun stores sell, for this reason. I take the HVX with me wherever I go (even if I don't need it, it goes in the trunk of the car) because it's the most valuable thing I own and I feel safer not leaving it home alone.

I'd be more concerned having it in the trunk of my car than in my home. They can't steal the whole house so they may end up overlooking the HVX. However, they can steal the whole car and everything in the trunk.

Hi Tom. Sorry about your camera. Was the power supply taken? If not, I would put word out to local suppliers; also pawn shops.

I had a similar experience about a year ago. Good luck.

Firstly, a huge thanks to everyone for their messages of sympathy and support. I'm really impressed by how strong a community there is here, so thankyou to everyone.

Secondly, I'm still trying to identify the serial number. I found a sticker on the outside of the original box with a barcode, the model (AG-HVX200E) and a number that begins C6TC and then has 5 digits followed by an 'R'. Is this the serial number? It was a long time ago that I registered the camera and can't remember the format I should be looking for...

Sorry to hear about the theft... its one of my biggest fears, having my HVX (or any of my equipment ) stolen.

Sometimes people get lucky and get their stuff back, Im hoping you are one of the lucky.
