HI. can you put a edited sequences or clips from FCP back onto a p2 card. sorta like the print to video or edit to tape. the footage I have was shot with an hvx.

Not from FCP, no. You have to "print to video" and capture the incoming data stream on an HVX200 or HPX500.

Raylight for the Mac gives you the ability to export a file that could be copied to a P2 card. But FCP by itself has no provision for that.

I have an hvx200. how do you print to video and capture the stream to an HVX? Does that go straight to the p2 card in the camera? I am familiar with the print to video option in FCP but only when outputting to a tape.

It's actually really simple- you put the camera into MCR mode, hit the thumbnail button and hit record on the camera while playing out a timeline. No need to even print to video. That said there's not much point in this- a hard drive or even a DVD-R would have the identical effect. Actually better because you stay as QuickTime and wouldn't need to recapture.

I cant get that to work? you know im talking about sending a sequence to a p2 card right?

I put the camera in mcr mode. Then I hit the button on the camera that says audio dub/thumbnail then hit record, while a sequence was playing in fcp. But when I hit the record button on the camera it switched itself out of mcr mode, and started to record like I was filming.

are you hitting the record button on top of the camera body? its by the play/stop buttons. not the handle record or the record on the back.

I tried to do this so many different ways and nothing works. My camera was hooked up to a MBP via firewire. The footage I have was shot in 720pn mode. Is that a problem?

Are you able to select Firewire DVCPROHD as one of your view all frames preview/selections from FCP?

You can't carry PN streams over firewire. It has to be a non-native record mode. Firewire can't understand Native record streams.

That shouldn't be an issue- once it's in FCP the pulldown is being fed out to firewire so you'll end up with 720p/59.94.

But it could be an issue if he has is camera set to 720p/24pn, right? I don't know. I have never tried it. I know it can't go out, so I figure it can't come in if he is set in that mode on the HVX as well.

Where is that setting in FCP? firewire dvcprohd is selected in the audio/video settings. is that what your talking about?
Can someone give me a step by step walkthrough.
Do I need to print to video? or just start playing a sequence in the timeline? Ive tried both and I still cant get anything to copy to the p2 card in my camera. I put the camera in mcr mode and cancelled the thumbnail screen. Then hit the red and the grey buttons at the same time and nothing happens.
