Alternate version of my reel

Lucky Duck
I decided that the long and sobering version of my reel is not going to cut it for those wanting to see more in less time so I created another version of it. This one goes from 5 minutes to 1 minute and I still managed not only to retain all the shots but add 8 more!

720p version is up now for a limited time. I'll be uploading a quicktime file to replace it soon.

I really liked this version a lot! It looks more standard for demo reels, but the other one was still excellent too. I am recutting mine to be a lot quicker in pace and it's mostly scenic stuff too...

Yeah, I intend on keeping both. This version is for when I meet people with the attention of a gnat :)

Always nice to have a choice.

Exactly.... and boy oh boy there are many.

Your long reel is edited so damn well it's not even funny.

The whole thing flows almost as if the score was written to the footage.

Have you sent you stuff back home to Éire at all?

There are some very very good productions houses there as well and with the Euro being so strong and all.

Same with England...

I actually like this better than the long version. Best way I can put it is it has a more wow factor. Your long reel had the same stuff (besides the baseball) and built up slowly so every new shot had me going "nice," "oh nice," "dang dude," etc. This one is more in your face and gave a better impression of your skills.

Awesome man, just awesome.

That was so good.

The pencil shavings (I think) and the writing was awesome -- and the snowy footage.

Dang, that was awesome. Both versions were great.

Hey Steven, I noticed that your color space is extremely close to what the Panasonic cameras put out. How the heck do you get your colors like that? I've tried so damn much to get what you achieved but nada, I'm close to selling this camera because it's so frustrating.

And that's it? lol......

Is the footage in the reel color corrected in your NLE? I'm sure it has to be, it looks too good not be.

Oh just realized I didn't comment on the new reel. I like it, especially for the short attnetion span characters. I prefer the longer one for myself though.

The only adjustments I made to the shots color-wise was a levels correction and a little white balancing here and there. Otherwise, it's just the preset.

I've seen a few scams here on this site over the years, but this takes the cake.

For some time now Mr. Dempsey has been putting up footage and telling us that he is doing this work with a camera that is HDV and cost a little over 3 grand.

But this time he has pushed too far and exposed himself. These latest examples are clear evidence that Mr. Dempsey has all along been shooting with a 35mm Panavision film camera and digitizing it for posting on his website for us to view.

Yes, yes, I know you all are going to defend him but before you do, answer me one question. Has anybody ever actually seen him with this HDV camera in his hands?

Even if you did, Panavision makes cameras much smaller now, so he probably just made a Canon label in his computer and glued it on to the Panavision.

I think it is time to turn yourself in Mr. Dempsey and confess!

Seriously, just incredible, inspiring work and it is a pleasure to the eyes to view it no matter what cut I see. I think seeing your work has sold a LOT of these cameras.

Really fantastic. Thanks for sharing it and your settings.
