Filming on DVX in India and Bangladesh

Hi All

Heading off to Dhakar (BNG) and Kolkota (IND) next week and will be taking my DVX. Filming an indie-documentary

Curious to hear any advice for
1) Keeping my DVX clean and safe in that climate
2) Security - what (and who) to avoid when filming there. tips for the airports in these cities
3) Anything else relevant to these areas from anyone who has experience here

The documentary focuses on the people who are going so I don't want to antagonise the locals if I don't need to

Thoughts appreciated in advance

I have a separate thread on this going in the cinematography forum just about light quality etc - hope that's Ok - wanted to keep things on topic

regards

I filmed a lot in Sri Lanka and its really dusty, just have the gear to wipe it down, put some gaff tape over the tape deck so it can't get in the cracks, and take the time to clean it regularly. Maybe get a kata glove?

I filmed in Dhaka around 2 years ago. I didn't have any problems keeping the camera clean. I would recommend keeping your DVX on your person at all times. Carry everything you don't want to get stolen on the plane with you. The baggage handlers in that part of the world will steal anything.

If possible, make copies of your tapes before you leave, and split them up in different locations. I didn't have a problem, but who knows what customs / security might take.

Thanks for the suggestions. I anticipated quite a bit of dust in Kolkata but less so in Bangladesh and that seems to be ringing true

agcohn - great suggestion on duping the tapes and spreading them around. I am travelling with enough people to be able to do that for my most important tapes.

Anybody filmed in the airport or near other officials in these places? I've been reading in the news that the airport officials can take a pretty dim view of that stuff...

Be sure to keep an eye on local conditions as your trip nears. They are being hit by a Cat. 5 Cyclone right now, so some things could/will still be very messed up next week.
