Better camera for similar price?

I was wondering if I'm likely to find a better camera (quality, features, etc...) for the same price as the DVX, or a price close to it (around $2600). Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you looked and bartered REALLY hard, maybe you could score a XHA1 or one of the HVR series. Buying used would be your best bet. But for buying a new camera, you cant really beat a DVX. 24p, lots of good image controls, pretty compact and has good quality. The one downside that I can find is that there is no true 16:9, but thats not that big of a deal.

you can always transfer the footage over in 4:3 and later change it to 16:9 , I have tested this and it actually looks better than the original 4:3 footage :cheesy: go figure..

I found this thread about conversion of 4:3 to 16:9.

I am sure there are better techniques and results for this but it's a start.

I tend to stay with 4:3 then edit 4:3 and shoot 16:9 and edit 16:9 in project setup.

results will be probably be only better if you are crunching the video into a smaller export, i.e. 16:9 for web. if you go 4:3 to 16:9 for dvd, the video is probably anamorphic or just set in a letter box at 4:3. pushing out the edges of 4:3 has to have consequences, yet havent experimented with this yet.

all the best

Yeah...It's just best to shoot 16:9 rather than uprez IMOP. Which means for me getting anamorphic adapter, or the A1. Think I will just shoot good SD in the squeeze mode for now. Thanks for the info....Jeff
