HV20 + Adobe OnLocation (won't recognize)

I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to get OnLocation to recognize the HV20 when in HDV or HDV (PF24) modes? I can only get OnLocation to recognize it when it's in DV mode.

This is the trial version of OnLocation CS3 and it fully supports my HVX200 in DVCPRO-HD 1080i and 720P modes. So you are incorrect about the HD support. Maybe it doesn't support HDV?

Can anyone confirm that they've been able to get OnLocation to recognize, monitor and capture from the HV20 in HDV modes?

Sorry Phil, I should have said HDV support. But as far as I know you have to have the full version. I know it doesn't work with my A1 or HV20. And there was mention in the adobe forums that the trial doesn't support HDV.

Oh cool. Thank sack for the reply. I'll have the full version in a few weeks. Guess I'll be able to report on it then. I was just wondering if anyone had it now and could confirm if it was working with HDV. Cheers.

Works for me -

I have the retail version of On Location.

It will record 24p material as 60i and you will have to use other software for pull down.

It gives you the option to save as mt2 files or mpeg2.

It is laggy on my machine -

Core2duo 2gig with 2gigs RAM.

REALLY laggy. You can lower the rez for quicker action, but it's still not useable for tracking motion or focus.

I will use it for backing up shots while I record to tape in the cam.

Worked with my HV20.

Thanks Barry.

I am considering going this route to capture some interviews for a documentary.

I used iMovie HD and Final Cut Pro and it was fine.

But, there is so much more flexibility with a PC.

The only other piece of the puzzle is the HDMI vs Firewire.

Is it even worth it to go through the trouble and size of the HDMI route?

Is there a noticeable gain in quality at the end of the pipeline?

There is a gain, definitely. Whether it's worth the filesize is one thing. But whether it's worth the expense and hassle is quite another -- if you're talking about a laptop, HDMI isn't an option anyway. For capturing through the HDMI port you're talking about needing a Black Magic Intensity capture card, which requires a desktop system.
