Extreme Shipping!

I'm getting my Extreme tomorrow and Sunday will be my testing day. I'll be sure to test a bright light as well (that shot 4 does look strange). I do have an external HD monitor, so I'll give it a shot when adjusting (this is where the new Brevis is great; the micro-collimation ring is fantatsic). Hopefully adjustments won't prove difficult.

I believe back focus was already pre-adjusted before shipping for the Extreme? Hien? Quyen? DeGrey? Confirmation please.

I don't have external monitor, so i guess i'll have to connect it to my computer to set backfocus :(

I would recommend this to anyone setting up a 35mm adapter whether you own an external monitor or not - use an HD monitor to set up. Buy, borrow, rent... - the camera LCD just isn't up to par size-wise for critical focus, especially initial set up.

Yes, back-focus is adjusted before shipping.

Good to hear. BTW all the guys (including DeGrey at Letusdirect.com have been great in answering questions). I'm curious if (as suggested by others) attaching the Letus Extreme to an adapter ring to protect the HVX's adapter threads will throw off the backfocus. Logic would say yes since it pushes the adapter a few millimeters away from the HVX, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

As my payment has been unluckily retained by paypal until next week, I'll be reading all kind of initial setup reviews and will discover if i need some kind of adjustement with my hv20 (and 4 stepup rings from 43 to 72) and backfocus. i hope my 720p tv could do the trick.

Regards

No, it won't. There are two areas of focus, the backfocus that's being discussed is related to the distance between the 35mm lens and the ground glass. That one can be set precisely, and is set at the factory.

Then there's the focus between your HVX and the ground glass. That one you have to manually set any time you mount the adapter. Whether there's a step-down ring or filter ring in the way won't make any difference -- I mean, it'll change the focus point you set, but so what? You have to set the right focus point anyway (and it's easy enough to do, just point the ground glass at a light and press "autofocus" and it'll do it for you).

You mean the back focus is set and the lens mount will be set on the adapter before shipping, and it doesn't come in 3 pieces like the one the guy got in the review.

I have to ask. How is the back focus done with the Letus in the factory? Is the lens mount sitting flat on the adapter and then you adjust the G.G to set the focus or is the G.G in a fix position and then the mount is adjusted to set the focus.

Because I find it really hard to set the lens mount parallel to the G.G if it is not sitting flat on the adapter. Is the G.G fix and the mount is build that it sits flatly on the adapter and it gives the correct back focus length of that type of lens mount.

Because if I keep changing lens mount for my Nikon or Canon lens. I would like to know that when i place the lens mount flatly of the adapter, back focus is instanly attain. If I have to adjust the lens mount to set back focus. I not so confident that I will be able to make it parallel to the G.G. It will be close but not perfect.

Thanks for clarifying, Barry

How about the G.G that we getting? will the new G.G comes with no flare or glow problems or does it come with that problem like the per- release unit?

If you look closely at picture 2, the head lights also has some flare not just no picture 4

I'm not sure if what you're looking at, David, is a product of the adapter at all. I think it's the lens.

Lets hope it is the lens . and not the G.G, I would like to see more pictures taken by Letus economy users and hopefully soon from Extreme users when it hits the road...

It is possible that this is the GG from the pre-production model. There is a different one being used in the final shipping version. Just hold tight for a few days and see what others are posting. I should have a final version tomorrow and will be shooting some more tests on Sunday.

Great can't wait for the report.

But the Letus economy still is from a commercial unit. I really hope it is something to do with the lenses use and hopefully the back focus I ask early is fix too....

I got my 2 pieces of Extreme. GREAT LOOK!!! It litteraly took me 2-3 minutes to have everything ready to be mounted on the camera and rails. And I am the newbiest of all newbies in this shpere.

Since I have to go back to work, I'll set up everything with the camera later.

But solid piece of work, smooth design and the look is very professional. The batteries slot is very clever. Everything looks compelling. I just need to try it on the camera.

Great, Please show some still that has lights in the background. I'm really interested in know the results. Just to see if it has glow or flare like the pictures shown above...

how exactly are you mounting your letus extreme on rails? I have seen one setup but am still slightly confused how to go about this?
