Buying a DVX100b on ebay ? Help Wanted.

Hi. I am new in this forum. I am presently searching the web for the best offer for a new dvx100b. I live in Montreal (Canada) and the best deals for the dvx100b that i found are in the United States and more precisely on ebay.

I am getting crazy over looking all these different offers, being sure they have a proper US Warranty from panasonic. I have wrote to these companies, like time2envy, digital-shopping-network, sunshinelec, digitalcorp and they all claim they have the proper US warranty and that there is no problem, but still i am suspicious ...

I was wondering if anyone had bought from these companies, and if they had some problems with them, was it really a US model with a proper US warranty, did you pay the price they displayed ?

I don't want to buy a grey market camera, i want a brand new US model with the proper US warranty from Panasonic.

Here are the offers i am considering:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Panasonic-AG-DVX...ryZ20332QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Panasonic-AG-DVX...ryZ20332QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.ca/PANASONIC-AG-DVX...yZ107937QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Do you think these offers are grey market ?
Should I buy elsewhere ?
Is there an offer you think if better then ther others ?

There is alot of questions in this thread, if anybody could help me it would be great.

Thanks,

Laurent

Please go to Newegg.com or any other known authorized dealers in the US and buy your DVX 100B. The Ebay stores (at the end of the transactions) will try and upsell or force you to buy some accessories and warranty that can run into over a thousand bucks.

For about $100 more ($2500-$2600 approximately including shipping), you can get your camera in less than a week and the current promo specials - DVX book by our own Barry Green, Instant HD and Magic bullet software (in 5 weeks). I can share this with you because this has been my recent experience.

I am not sure purchases from those Ebay stores will qualify for these additional promotional items. Buying from a videographer or indie pro who is trying to sell his/her used cam is a different case but not the Ebay stores offering new DVX cam products. The risks are clearly visible. There has been a lot of exchange on this subject in the past few months. I trust you can make better choice here. Good luck with your purchase.

a4one is correct, newegg is the way to go. got mine in 3 days after my online purchase. they have good customer service too. just don't know if they ship to canada. goodluck! oops...they're out of stock...just email them or inquire about the camera.

Hey I am new here also , I just think that you should choose some cannon or sony also , they are very good brands for cameras .

As far as I know Newegg.com is not an authorized dealer.

Luis is right--as of the last revision of the authorized dealer sticky (second link in akajack's post), Newegg is listed as not being an authorized dealer. That's not to accuse them of being a scam shop--I can't say that I recall anybody here saying they didn't get a US camera from Newegg, and I do recall that several people in other threads have reported getting US cameras from Newegg. It's just that calling them an "authorized dealer" is technically incorrect. :) Personally, although I've done a lot of business with Newegg for computer parts, and have always had great experiences, I don't think I'd buy a camera, or plasma TV, or something like that from them, but that's just me...

As for joy99, dude, how do you know that he hasn't considered Sony or Canon? Admittedly, the DVX isn't right for everybody--and I should know, I wound up getting a GL2 for my company, even though I tried damned hard to talk myself into a DVX so I could play with it on the weekends :D--but I'd bet that a lot of the DVX owners on this site at least looked at Canons and/or Sonys before deciding that the DVX was what they had to have for one reason or another.

I would definitely stay away from any eBay seller unless it is obviously from a private party. If you look at the eBay store name and google it, usually you will find a long list of: "DON'T TRUST THIS SELLER" and "WORST EXPERIENCE EVER" threads...

When I bought my DVX back in August I couldn't even find it in stock. I tried Newegg because their site said it was in stock - then went to checkout only to discover the item was not in stock... I don't know if it is still like that, but it seems that DVX supplies are very short (which made me wonder if an update was on the way). As for authorized reseller - I'm not sure if that really makes that much difference. I have several clients who sell blank media and only recently did they get their "Authorized === Reseller" status - they still sold the media, and they still honored warranty's from equipment manufacturers... so I think that is more or less for piece of mind. The one thing I didn't like about Newegg is there seems to be no way of getting a physical person on the phone. I tried and tried back in August and to no avail.

Your best bet may be to buy used - that's what I had to do.

No ebay ...

No ebay ...

Thanks a lot for all your advices.

After thinking about it over and over again, i will not go with ebay, i think it's too risky to pay that kind of money and not know what you might get.

I will look for deals in montreal and in canada, i found a shop where they sell it new at 2800$ before taxes. If i buy for example at newegg, it maybe 2600$ but i'll have to pay taxes, shipping and shipping insurance ...

I might also buy a used one but i aint sure if it's worth it, on how much the quality and longevity of the camera is affected by the hours of playback. And i did not find alot of offers for used dvx100b in good shape.

If i could, my first choice would to buy new, but it's alot of money, the deal i found in montreal, would be around 3200$ with taxes. ...

Anyway i'll keep you inform of my decision.

And where did you find your used camera ? You bought a dvx100b ?

I bought it off of Craigslist. It was my first time buying anything off of craigslist and was scared to death - paying $2000 for a 100a with about 50 hours on it. One thing I was worried about (aside from having that much cash in my pocket) was that I didn't want to buy a camera from someone who may have bought it from one of those east-coast-screw-fest camera shops.

So I politely asked a lot of questions about the camera (where it was bought, how much use, why he was giving it up etc.) and the guy turned out to be really nice. He had babied the camera (which did look evident when I saw it physically), and bought it from a reputable camera shop here on the west coast.

Overall, I would definitely do it again. I would actually prefer buying from craigslist over a private party ebay auction because of the face-to-face you get. There is a lot to be said when you meet someone, can ask them questions and handle the camera yourself before committing to buy. This guy was super nice, but be safe. Meet in a public place (one that you're more comfortable with preferably), and spend some time with it before buying. I took about 1 1/2 hours, but when I walked away I was glad I made the purchase. I probably could have found a cheaper one, but I didn't have the time, I needed the camera for a project that was coming within a week - and in reality, I did save about $600 still. I really wanted the "b", but found none in or near my area. Hope this helps, keep us updated on your search!

I also bought mine from craigslist and grilled the guy via email, got the lowdown, his card, and invoice, 3-day inspection period, quick lesson, shot some footage first, history of what conditions the DVX had been used in, etc. Nothing like being able to do it this way.

Hi Luis,

I have purchased two DVX100B cameras from Newegg in the past 2 months and I gladly received the promo items Red Giant Instant HD v1.1 software, the Magic Bullet editors Software v2.1 and our own Barry Green's DVX Book + DVD. This promo items are only sent to purchases made from authorized Panasonic dealers in the US, right? may be I am technically incorrect in referring to them as "An authorized dealer". But wait there's more .... Prior to making my first and second purchases, I called Panasonic USA at 1-800-211-7262 to confirm Newegg's status and I received an affirmation or confirmation from Panasonic that "YES, Newegg is indeed an Authorized dealer of Panasonic. What better information do I need than from the Vendor himself. That actually informed the purchase of my two DVX camcorders. My recent receipt of the promo items on the purchase I made from Newegg further confirmed their status. I am not an agent of Newegg, but I think it will be appropriate and beneficial to members of the forum to use my transparent and honest experience to make better and informed purchase decisions in the future.

May be I should have worded my first post like this - For the benefit of those still wanting to buy a DVX 100B camera, Newegg is one of the sites one can make an 'Authorized purchase' (to use a technically correct term). One can make a purchase there with piece of mind and without sweat and stress. There are also other authorized dealers listed in this forum with great customer service and price as well. I hope this clears any confusion.

Personal experience in life is one of the best teachers no matter how others try to describe the experienced event to you. Only the DVX can evoke this kind of passion and followership. Without taking away the focus of the real subject matter, the DVX 100B truly delivers. Lofabo- you won't regret your purchase.

this is to let you know that newegg is i think one of those honest online retailers around (i don't get paid for this just to let you know) it's just that it's based on my experience. first, i bought my dvc30 from them then 2nd i got my dvx100b recently. here's my thought, if they are not authorized by panasonic to sell those camcorders how come that i received my DVXbook and DVD from barry on those from magic bullet today after sending the form couple of weeks ago? why did they honor the form inside the box anyway if they're not an authorized dealer? i would just like to ask other members...did you get your camcorder from newegg in the first place? have you tried buying from them? i guess i'm only lucky because i got the camera from them which is brand new and under warranty and with no problems at all. any thoughts from others who bought from newegg?

Hey - I wasn't passing any judgement on Newegg.
I was only saying that as far as I knew they were not authorized Panasonic dealers.
If that status has changed, that's good to know.

Perhaps its time to update the Authorized Dealers sticky post?

Luis - I think you are right and we are on the same page on this. The list posted by Barry on the list of non-Authorized dealers still shows that Newegg is on that list. The list was last updated in March. Things definitely have changed over time and its time the list needs to be updated. Barry's authority in this space is undisputed, as every post from him carry's so much weight and credibility. I trust he will make the necessary updates whenever he can. Let's put the DVX to work and create some kool stuffs.

You can buy it, in stock, from a Canadian company for $2900.00.
www.vistek.ca , Canadian warranty with topnotch service. The dollar's at par. No advantage buying in the states anymore.
