Como's back. back again
My first short film over 5 minutes. Its approx 9 minutes. It was going for Hallows fest, and i was worried It wouldn't be lnog enough enough, but now its to long! I dont think i can trim 'er down to 5 minutes. So ill post it here.

Took about 3-4 hours to shoot, and about 7 to edit. Here are some stills of what it is so far. Im done the film, i just have to go over it and fix up little boo boos.

HERE IS THE VIDEO!!

There is no video link, you want comments on stills? They look good/interesting.

These stills look pretty good Como; the two shots lacking light really are hurting

Look how nice your shots are in contrast that actually have a light source.

Load it up; I wanna see

Thanks! I meant for the shot in the garage to be dark, i just felt it looked really good and fit the film nicely...Im just going over it now, fixing audio and exposure and what not. Its 9 minutes in length, i was gonig for hallows fest, but it was to long

Remember my comments and feedback. Tomorrow I expect to see the shortened, kick ass version. GET TO EDITING.

You know what! That was pretty good. I still think you could have chopped this baby down to 5 minutes for Hallows Fest. It would have been tough, but it is definitely doable.

You have some really nice shots in this. Nice work.

Of course, you should at least credit the music, even if you don't have the rights to it.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Robbie good job mate!

The hostage actor was really good too.

I think you could definately cut it down a fair bit but it's all good.

Here's a couple other things perhaps to think about:

- Add punch sfx in there as they're sorely missed.
- When the hostage first wakes he tries to take the tape off his mouth for a second, it seems he could easily get it off so cut that out (could do jump cuts there too?)
- Maybe work with the music sound design so when we're in the hostage room it's apparent, although not too faint as that'd give away suspense and say 'killer's far away from victim'.

Thanks guys. Ian, i cant find any good, non cheesy punching sound effetcs :(
Hold up a large steak and start hitting the crap out of it. Just hit record first... :)

EDIT: Robbie, I really wish this was a Hollows Fest entry. You did a great job and pacing it within 5 minutes would have made it a little more frantic. Especially if you edited it with that in mind.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. Nice work!

Actually, no. You won't be able to now. You've screened it for the public and received feedback. :(

At least I was able to inspire you a little with my previous short. If I were you I would still do the edit and post it here. It's really great practice to try and make a movie under a certain time limit.

BTW, how did you get the file so small?

Well it was my first attempt to go for a contest, first attempt at an actual short film longer than 5 minutes, and it was my first atempt for a fighting scene. So you can see the flaws here.

In final cut, i exported it with quicktime conervsion, h.264, and i went to broadband medium, that it what did it right there. Its great (the medium broadband) then i brought the quality to about medium, and it ended up being a 36 mb file! The quality wasn't bad either!

Any other feedback guys?

My thoughts..

an ok short i guess... even though there is no motivation for either of the characters.

what made me not like it was the heavy metal music... that kind of thing is always used it seems when people are trying to make the 'killer' seem more derranged and evil.

I equate it to "crappy soundtrack fairy" coming in and dropping in some loud music.. just cause...

no music would have sufficed I think... thats what soured me on it.

aside from that.. I don't know what to say about it... not much going on here.. it looks good in parts, composition wise.

thats all I got.
