HVX to FCP Importing direct from P2 - Problems....

I really hate to have to ask a question that has undoubtedly been asked before, but I've searched and found answers that have gotten me this far, but no further.

HVX200/IMac2.33/FCP5.0/FW400-1394 cable/8G P2 cards. Test clips shot at 720/24p.

I was able to work through getting the HVX hooked up and the cards mounted on the desktop. In FCP I was able to get the clips recognized in the clip window after using the "Import Panasonic P2" command, and I can copy the clips to my desktop (not aliasing).

When I push the "import" or "import all" command in the P2 clip window, I get an error message that says,

"one or more clips failed to import, possible incomplete or corrupt clips."

I've shot two rounds of test clips that play for me in the LCD on the camera, but I can't seem to get these into FCP. I really doubt that the clips are corrupted. Can't find the answer in the manual or in Barry's book, or searching threads here.

Seems to me it is something simple that I have overlooked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, haven't replaced the FW cable. I'll try that tonight, but it seems an unlikely culprit since the HVX is being recognized, the P2 cards are mounted, and the MXF files did transfer to the desktop when I used Finder to move the files.

FCP won't recognize the files using "import Panasonic P2" (directly to HVX) or using "import files" (importing from transferred files on the desktop)commands.

Following the transfer using Finder, the video, audio, clip and bmp files all exist on my desktop and in the "no name" icon, but are grayed out for desktop access and won't properly import (either way) into FCP 5.0. They are also locked.

the fix is as simple as upgrading your FCP

I was frusturated with the same error message for days, and after doing some research I finally found out that you need to update your Final Cut Pro 5.0 to Final Cut Pro 5.0.4! Just go to the Apple site and download the update (if you have a registered copy of FCP.)
Hope this helps as it worked for me.

importing p2 files into fcp problem

i just ran into this same problem 3 months after you guys did.
but i have the same fcp 5.0.4 on my old powerbook g4 and on
my new macbook pro. works on the old one, but i have the same
error message on the macbook pro. any ideas?

Are the sequence and capture settings in FCP identical to those the HVX is using. That will make it impossible to import.
