Will my computer handle the HVX?

hi
im thinking about making the upgrade to the hvx200 except i am not sure how resource hungry hd footage is.

my current laptop handled sd from my dvx fine, but i dont know much about what it takes to edit hvx.

dell xps m170 laptop
2 gb RAM
2.0 ghz processor
nvidea go gtx7800 256mb video card
and a bunch of hd space

i will end up buying a fancy dekstop within a year or two but for now i want to know if it would work.

You mean a 2.0 ghz core duo? Then yes, it'll be fine. I was editing with edius on a laptop, 5400rpm hd, 128 ati card and 2gb ram no worries.

I have a 1.5GHz Pentium M with 128M Ram and it handles the HVX just fine. Rendering and playback are slow but it gets the jobe done.

Also, if you are talking Core Duo or Core2Duo with your 2.0 ghz processor, any NLE will handle it fine. If not, I'm sure you will be able to edit with other NLE's as well.

I don't mean to imply that EDIUS is the only one that will do it. But, EDIUS is known for it's realtime performance, and if you are in a CPU crunch, it will be the one that will give you the most bang for your buck in terms of realtime performance.

No comment, TMNT :) I love it, and sometimes I want to hate it.

I'm still a newbie at Edius but am looking forward to learning as much as possible and really learning to edit, not just cut and paste.
