Hd Monitor Pro

Has anyone used this HD MONITOR PRO software yet?

I have questions...

It allows you to record directly to your hard drive, so I assume you would need to go from your camera, through a fire wire cable to a computer, through fire wire to an external hard drive? My MacBook Pro only has 1 fire wire port. What do I do in this case? How long of a fire wire cable can you use??

Does it allow you to see your footage in HD as you edit in FCP? Or does it only allow you to use as an HD monitor with your camera?

I want to be able to view my footage in HD while I edit.

This program, along with Scopebox, allow you to capture DVCProHD footage out firewire to a laptop so long as you have the the DVCProHD codecs installed via FCP. You don't need to launch FCP to capture, and anything that will stream out firewire via the HVX200 can be captured.

Phil,
Are you sure your macbook pro only has one firewire port? Mine has two. A 400 and an 800. Plus, you can always go eSATA with an adaptor for your expresscard slot.

An 1394 express card expansion will aloow you to do this easily. Better, yet, get an express card with esata and get a raid, and then yo ucan use your raid for editing as well.

Oh, okay, but what about my other questions?

Does it allow you to see your footage in HD as you edit in FCP? Or does it only allow you to use as an HD monitor with your camera?

I want to be able to view my footage in HD while I edit.

None of these apps allows you to see your footage in HD as you edit. Nor do they allow you to use an HD monitor while you edit. They are software utilities for capturing DVCProHD footage to a laptop via firewire from the HVX200.

If you need more info about them, why not simply go the developer's web sites and look at the technical specs?

To view HD footage externally, look into Matrox MXO for the Mac.

What if someone (e.g. me) has a PowerBook G4 that doesn't have an expresscard slot (only a PCMCIA). Is there some mod I can do to the PowerBook that will allow me to hook up a firewire or esata drive while the sole firewire port on the PowerBook is taken up by the HVX?
