Mac problems

Como's back. back again
Ever since i got my mac, safari and MSN will quit on me, and other programs to. Sometimes its a lot that this occurs, and other times it isnt so often. But ill double click a peron in msn, and if i start to type to fast, it will shut down. Or if i watch a video on videocopilot.net, for longer than 20 minutes, and then i click the exit button, safari will freeze...Final cut quits on me, all these programs. Its really annoying, anything I can do to stop this nonsence? Its A MAC!!!!!!!!

Its A MAC!!!!!!!!

That's your problem. Only joking of course.

Make sure you have the most recent versions of everything installed. I'm too lazy to upgrade iTunes and now Quicktime doesn't work for me very well (freezes once video is over).

I use a PC so I can't "solve" your problems but make sure it's not a user error before you blame your computer.

Despite how the ads make MACs seem like godly machines, they're still computers.

Sure they're built for the industry, but doesn't mean they don't have their own problems.

I can't help you. Don't know much about macs or that problem.

Basic maintenance things you can do...Run Disk Utility, and click repair permissions on your main hard drive (the one with your system software on it). Also fix disk errors on your other drives. You also might want to swap out your ram, as bad third party ram can cause a lot of crashes. And try to have at least 1 gig of ram in your system. Makes a big difference in how smoothly OS X runs.

As great as DVXuser is, I think a question like this would be best answered on a Mac forum.

I'd also say to get some first party ram (if you dont already have it). That can make all the diff in the world!

As Batutta says, the first thing to do is repair permissions. You can also try re-installing those applications that are giving you trouble. And if that fails, try re-installing OS X while keeping your settings and apps in tact (although back up your system drive, just in case). And if THAT fails, try doing a totally clean install of the OS.

Same thing was happening to me, it was a memory issue. Run the disk repair and all that stuff first, and if that doesn't work, try to get a hold of some different memory to pop in to see if that solves your problem. It worked for me and now my power book runs perfect.

Final cut quits on me, …
FCP requires a minimum of 1 gig of RAM. In your case too little RAM is the problem. Apple gouges their customers on memory, don't buy from them. Don't buy cheap third party RAM, it will likely cause more problems than it will solve. OWC and Crucial are good sources for Mac RAM. Also, when installing RAM in an Mac it should be installed in pairs.

And if installing more RAM doesn't work (although I suspect it will), give Applejack a try. You can find it at Versiontracker.

Why wouldn't you just get some RAM from cpused? They have all kinds of new and used stuff there, and the prices are okay.

Nothing beats having lots and lots of RAM. Except maybe, having MORE than lots and lots of RAM available.... that would be sweet.

Lots of good suggestions have been made. You didn't state what mac you have but with all new macs (G5 and newer) apple says you should have 512mb ram just to run the OS and its true. Every time you install a new piece of software you need to run (repair disk permissions) and restart. The more ram the more apps you can have open at the same time without problems and some programs and use all of your ram. I run a G5 dual 2.0 with 5.5gigs of ram and can have FCP, Motion, Photoshop, Livetype, Soundtrack Pro ect, open at the same time with no problems. If your going to do real heavy Motion or After Effects work or 24 tracks in Pro tools then thats all you should be running at a time.

I have ran final cut, after effects, same time, on my 17 inch 183 ghz, 512 ram imac, lol and boy was it slow...Thanks guys
