A1 footage is really slow

I've got HDV footage captured on a Canon XHA1 at 30p. I render it out to Cineform 720 30p intermediate format and go to edit it but the best I'm getting is about 12fps playback.

This is Vegas 7 on an Athlon 64x2 dual core 3600+ with 4gig DDR2 and 7200RPM drives. How much more powerful does my system have to be to playback at 30p?

I'm running in classic mode and don't have anything else open.

Make sure your Vegas' Project Properties are matching exactly your file's properties, otherwise Vegas will be slow as it will be forced to resample.

I just did what you said, I exported my HDV to 720/30p via Cineform, and loaded it on a Project that's set as such too. And it works very fast on my Vegas 8, P4 at 3 Ghz, 3 GB RAM in both "preview" and "Best" quality.

I've noticed this problem is not just in Vegas alone. After installing onLocation CS3 I get stuttery playback as well.

A1 footage is really slow

Ok originally I posted about this in the Vegas forum stating that my playback footage on my computer was really slow. But now I've noticed it's not just in Vegas 7 where playback is only 9-12fps, after installing onLocation CS3 my live preview is also really slow, around that framerate. So I guess it's something on my computer, which doesn't make sense being that my computer (I would think) is fast enough.

I'm running a Dell Dimension E521
Athlon 64 x2 dual core at 1.9GHz
4gig of DDR2
3 physically independent 7200RPM SATA drives
Vista business - without any of the bells and whistles turned on.

Even when I convert my video to Cineform 720 30p intermediate format I still get the same kind of playback speeds. I don't see how I'm going to bring this into a live record/production environment like this.

Any help would be great.
