Oh no, a scratch.... :(

*sigh* this is the worst feeling in the world. I was filming a short film and when i finished I went to edit it and i noticed this odd mark every now and then. It wasn't huge or anything, but it was still there. It got me worried so i went to check the lens and my fears were confirmed. A tiny nick on the camera caught my eye, so i just figured i got dirt on it. As it turns out, the tiny nick was a scratch. I have no clue how it got there, but i need to fix it fast.

Anyone know who i can call or where i can go to get it serviced?
How much does it cost to get a lens replaced?

Would it be better to just sell the camera and state that there is a small nick on it?

Thanks in advance.

-Ben

No UV filter or anything for protection? Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation. I definitely advise adding a UV filter after you get it fixed or if you get a new one to protect the lens. Good luck.

No, unfortunately I did not, and it's a lesson well learned.

But please people, help me out here. I need a price estimate. I've seen 800 bucks for the lens but does anybody know what my options are as far as getting it fixed?

thanks again,

-Ben

They are an authorized repair center for the DVX/HVX. Call them and speak to them, or send a pm to them here on the forum. They can at least point you in the right direction or give you an idea.

I got a uv filter for 50 bucks with a two year warranty. If i break it, scratch it, shatter it, run it over with a car, i can get a new one ad many times as i want

I'll check with specialized communications, but are there any other recommendations? I need to keep my options open. Thanks again to those that have helped.

Sadly enough spec-comm no longer repairs dvx's. They only repair the DVCPro gear from panasonic. Mainly due to the fact that most of their profit is from higher end business but most of the time they spent repair was from lower end cameras.
While I hate the decision because they are only an hour drive from me to get my camera cleaned it was a good business decision

Thanks for trying man, but this is terrible. If I can't find some repair place within the next 2 weeks, I'm gonna have to sell this. Man this sucks :(

Have you looked into post solutions? If its small, you might be able to create an generic After Effects setup that clones it out for you. Lots of people do this for "stuck" pixels.

Can you post a frame grab?

Yeah, but it gives me some shop in Brooklyn, haha I know that it's probably legit, but any camera place in Brooklyn is usually shady.

Yeah I called the one in Brooklyn and they told me to just send it in. Sending my camera anywhere near Brooklyn sounds like a bad idea.

Any other suggestions? Or should I just send it there?
