From AVID to Final Cut to HDCAM??

Hello,

Hope someone here can help. I shot a feature film on the HVX200 with firestore drives. I edited the film on my AVID Xpress at 1080i/60. I need to output the film on Sony HDCAM. I found a house in New York that will output from Final Cut to Sony HDCAM tape. I need to bring in a eSata USB drive to their office of my finished film for them to load into Final Cut and output onto HDCAM tape.

What is the best way to export a file from Avid so that Final Cut Pro will recognize it. A Quicktime file? I know there is a functiion on Quicktime that says export same as original. Does this mean it will not compress the original DVCPRO HD material?

I have tried trancoding to MXF (the entire feature) but an error appears at the end, and i can't get Avid to recognize the MXF files once they have been trancoded. The media tool bar is essentially blank, when i try to load material in.

any suggestions,

Omar

Which facility did you find and what kind of rate did you get ?

Just shot short film: HVX200 > P2 > FCP > looking for cheap HDCAM out.

Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmm nobody is really cheap. I would call Ascent Media in NY, they have a final cut system that is set directly to d5 and HDCAM

These are all HD dub houses. I think Hello was the best price. I actually ended up rented a deck for $500 and outputted to tape another $120. It was actually the cheapest way to go. The only problem was in my own AVID system, I only have firewire out to tape. Soooooo a friend of mine lemme borrow his AVID for a couple of hours, and i was able to output to HDCAM. It was a little "picky" about what format - i think i had to transcode to 115??? maybe. But yeah, it ain't cheap. Let us all know how you do price wise. You can exit to DVCPRO HD for cheaper. If you rent a deck from

http://www.hd-cinema.com/rates.htm

They have a DVC PRO HD deck in which you can output via firewire and the daily rate is $300 plus stock.

Let us know how you make out and what price. But the general rule is once you enter a post studio with a drive, they will tell you oh...you need to do this...and this and charge you $250 to $450 per hour and the next thing you know you paid 5 grand (like my buddy did) for an HDCAM output. Why? well let's be honest - most of us who do films for a living (sell movies to cable TV and labels/studios etc.) rarely do we (i had to twice) ever have to deliver an HD master to a client. So there really isn't quite the demand of HD in the marketplace that folks make it out to be...at least not yet.

Some stations ask for it, but most of my clients want NTSC digibeta...still. I like the look of HD, but corporate videos want DVDs, and TV and studios want digibeta...with the occasional exception to Cinemax and In Demand. I think HD will absolutely take off occasionally (even though DVD sales are super slow) and many stations haven't come on board etc. But when they do - the prices will eventually come down for post HD work and rentals.

hopefully this was helpful. I see cheap ads for HD output in Los Angeles, maybe call around there and see if you can ship your drive and they can output from it.
