So.. I need help.

I've stayed up for some hours now reading about this camera (HV20) and been watching alot of footage.. and I must say.. I'm impressed..

Full HD... good colors... progressive... Cheap!...

little bit unsharp (but resize it down to DV format and it will look a lot sharper than the dvx)... lacks a lot of the manual controls, but it's still possible to have a pretty decent control of your image...

I mean.. you see a lot of really bad footage out there, but I mean you see that with the DVX as well..

And I already have the Sgpro ordered.. so the image quality/DOF will get way better..

Help me out guys, start a fight:P

How long have you had your DVX for? I have had mine for a good3-4 months. I'm planning on keeping it and using it for another 1-2 years, then upgrading to whatever HD camera is out there. Maybe the XH-A1

You will not look professional with a consumer camera for one. You dont have nearly as much control over settings as you do with the DVX. And people are saying any manual control it has is cumbersome. If you want a point and shoot camera, I say sure, it appears to be the best for the money in that area. I have thought about gettting one on top of the DVX, but not replacing my DVX with one.

Well did you guys even read what I said about the pros and cons?

Imagewise... is it a good buy?

Buying an HV 20 is like trading in a Formula 2 race car for a "Subaru STI". yea its still fast but it would not make it on the pro circuit.

the camera is more than the image. its useablilty is a key factor.
The HV20 its not professionally minded. its a consumer camera.

haha:P well said, well said..

though I must still say that I am very impressed by the footage of the little thing..

Good idea Matt.

Infact, Save a little bit, sell the DVX, and buy an XHA1. You cant go wrong with that Camera..... For the price, unbeatable. its the best parts of the DVX formfactor and useability, ( minus a few things that wont bug non Pros) and you get a VERY lovely HD picture out of it.

yeah... I landed on that solution...

yea the SGpro A1 combo is really turning out some nice images. Macgregors latest work is looking great. he uses that combo.

XH A1 might be a good Idea to go for..... Mine arrived today, I have not used it. Just looking at it gets me excited for now!!

In the case of the indie filmmaker, camera doesn't matter anymore

You know I’ve shot on lots of different formats; everyone had its own uniqueness.

Camera is an aesthetic artistic decision on a purist level. Image expectation is subjective, story/ action paramount, direction art/ camera/ actor binds it all together.

The DVX works on every level because of versatility, usability, durability and all the other ity’s you can think of. It is the Indies champion. Sharper image does not = better film, the DVX image also HIDES a multitude of sins. The DVX has its place in history, I will never sell my DVX because one day in the future it will still be perfect for that type of look, even if its blown up to 42k!! (2020)

Experiment by all means John, you need it to develop as a Director but that ‘Hudson’ look that you achieve DVX + ‘Hudson CC’, I think you be mad not to write a brilliant story (before you get rid), pulling in every favor you can, not sleeping much, busy, busy, going full tilt making it. I personally think that + the look and feel you already have, would make something truly special. (unless your already doing that)

Your DVX would haunt you anyway, even if you sold it. It would be ‘The Hand’ all over again.

J
