Check out this thread:

http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/index.php?showtopic=25671

It's about a guy that asked to intercut footage from a RED with an HVX. The pictures posted are really hilarious. Cinematography has probably the biggest anti HVX community I've ever seen, with blatant lies about the camera and tons of misinformation. Oh, and it's populated with self styled "experts". I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does.

I would have posted on that thread to clear things up but......I'm suspended until September 24th....:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) (Long Story. I called out an 'expert' as a blowhard and got myself suspended since he had been there since the late nineties and I had only been on for two weeks. This according to the owner of the site)

I am not sure I call that ripping on the HVX, but from that left/right comparison, it's clear that that guy has no idea how to shoot with an HVX. I am not sure how to even get an image that bad out of it...:) Maybe if I soaked it in water for a few hours...

"The HVX is the best overall of the toy cams."

"Clearing things up" seems like a waste of time with these guys.

Haha

Haha

This guy is retarded. He obviously doesn't know how to focus the camera.
BTW, both stills look like shi*.

Oh my god, my old Sony DCR-100 looks better than that "HVX footage" bullsh*t. What a lying scum!

Well, in the world of F23's and Panavision Cameras the HVX200 is a Toy. To top end guys, they look at these things with disdain, mainly because of Job security i think. People may not want to pay 3K a day for a DP when htey can get a good talented young Dp for 500$ and a HD camera included. Depending on the job of course......

I get that, Timur.

It's a different story to disparage a camera that they intercut with an F900 on shows like "4400" and you can't even tell. The HVX is no F23, but come on, it doesn't look that bad!!!!

I shot the F900 with Zeiss Digiprimes quite often. I can tell you that maybe Joe **** the Ragman, ASC might be able to tell the difference betwen it and the HVX, but most people watching would not be able to.

Well, what are you going to do? I've seen so many 'so called professionals' give horrible and bias advice. We are all guilty of that at times, but this is bad.

Sometimes you wonder... "they are a professional what?" But what do I know? I'm just a film student, not a professional :)

Everyone knows the HVX is an HD cam, and unless your head is up your ass, you can tell that grab is simply not near HD resolution.

OverlandFilms (Erik Olson) is already throwing down over there, so go in peace. Or rest in pieces. I just know I get better shots from my DVX than that supposed HVX still. Yeesh.

That's just an uncorrected shot straight from MXF with no lighting. Okay, we did have a Wescott gold flex on her from the shadow side. Anyway, someone follow-up with some real-world 720p and 1080p raw grabs and show them what HVX really does.

Anyone who only deals with front-end images (prior to grading) might also misconstrue the flat RED images as, well, flat. The truth is deeper in the image. Let them see what the HVX is capable of.

Good job Erik. That was a nice looking grab. Id' post some over there but am banned until the 24th.....hee hee!

Thanks. Banned huh? Didn't anyone ever tell you a picture is worth a thousand... oh well, you know.

i threw some grabs up there too.

I dont like Cinematography.com they dont support eachother well. they actually kinda fight all the time.....

Which is why I got banned. They fight all the time. Here is some nobody (will remain nameless - call him Mr. X) who is bawling out Jim Jannard (ceo of red) over the fact that the RED, in his lofty opinion, is not a 4K camera. I respond with the question (verbatim)

"Why do we care what Mr X. thinks?"

Next day I log in - account suspended. I asked Tim Taylor (owner of the site) why my account was suspended. He said it was because I disrespected Mr. X with the above statement. He had been on the forum since the late '90s, I had been on for two weeks. That's what he said!!!!!

So I keep lurking, and notice that Mr X. goes on to call Jannard "rich and mediocre" right on a public forum. I write back to Taylor calling Mr X out - no response.

Apparently, name calling is allowed if you are a senior member. I mentioned to Tim Taylor that Mr X. was a blowhard, know it all who was publicly name calling the billionaire CEO of RED and he just shined it on.

Oh well.
