Will the FS-C work on the A1 1080/24f ??

I would really like to know what I can do to record 1080i/24f onto a firestore or any other harddrive for quicktime files.

Yes, it works quite well. On the FS-C, you simply select HD as the recording format and QT as the wrapper. (rather than m2t)

The FS-C will recognize the 24F stream and record exactly that with no pulldown. It records edit-ready clips for FCP HDV 1080 24p sequences.

After shooting, all you have to do is put the FS-C into DD (disk drive) mode and the device will pop up on your Mac desktop. At that point, all you have to do is navigate on the FS-C to your clips folder and drag to your FCP bin.

Be aware that 24F QT recording is really only meant for FCP HDV 1080 24p editing. If your NLE is PC based, you should record as m2t. I don't know if the new Mac Premiere Pro supports QT HDV 1080 24p.

Yes, I've been using the FS-C (specifically FS-C, not FS-4) for months and it works flawlessly. There's a slight amount of manual reading that's necessary to become proficient with the device, but it's basically very easy.

Here's a tutorial I posted some time ago: http://canoncinema.com/look/showthread.php?t=4273

I highly recommend the product.

This might be a silly question, but I'll shoot anyway.

If you record straight to Quicktime HD, what kind of compression is applied? Is it Apple Intermediate Codec (IE all frames are I frames and color space is still 4:2:0)?

The HDV compression has already been applied when streaming from firewire. All the FS-C does is rewrap the MPEG2 stream within QT so it can be edited natively in FCP.

There's no recompression applied within the FS-C.
