HV10 and HD110 go to Norway

I returned from Norway a few weeks ago with over 1800 pictures and hours of video from my HD110 and HV10. There's a reason I will digress here. Let me preface this by saying that I've read all kinds of reviews, comments and shootout results for some time now. This shootout, that shootout...There's shooting all over the place. I have, over the past few years, owned a number of HDV cameras as well as the HVX. Let's see. There was the HD10u, FX-1, HVX, HD110 and now the A1 and HV10.

I'm just going to throw this in, not that it has anything to do with my main point. I'm certainly not as experienced as many others in the forums. And I respect the expertise of those that really know the intricate nuances of the camcorder hardware. So this is my opinion and it's based on my experiences.

The best video tool under 10K is.....(drum roll)...the HVX. Why? Because it does..everything. It doesn't do everything better, but it does everything. So in my quest to find the best camera for me under 10K, I found the HVX a very pleasurable experience. For example, it did not give me the sharpest HD picture. But the color was...better. Anyway, the A1 gets my plug as having the sharper picture. Actually it's second in my book only because it doesn't do...everything. It does some things better, but it doesn't do everything.

So, I'm on the marina in the Bergen, Norway with my HD110 on one tripod and the HV10 on another. Side by side was almost laughable as one would obviously pick the HD110 as the better video in the end. And having not seen footage from the HV10 until I returned I was stunned to say the least. Looking at the same shots from both cameras, the HV10 footage looked better. It did. Not that the HD110 had bad looking footage. I actually watched the JVC footage first and was pleased that I took the time to set up each and every shot. I didn't expect much from the HV10. Hardly any noise with outside footage. Not the best low light performer but what an amazing picture.

This is by no means a comparison of the quality of the cameras. I am not implying the HV10 is a better camera than the HD110, It is an observation of the footage as I shot it and viewed it. I'll post some clips on my site soon.
