Ok, so I'm back to "redeem" myself LOL. This is a 360 from my last post, this is a finished, and polished piece shot with my newest custom record LUT "nuzzaco_contrast_3" and rendered out using its companion render LUT.

All I did in post was tweak the colors and add additional space on the sides for a more wide screen look. ZERO post noise reduction used on this.

I've decided to do something unusual this time...

Uncompressed HD Animation (178MB)

Web HD Clip (16MB):

I highly recommend looking at the animation to see this clips full glory, and man is it beautiful, almost brings a tear to my eye :)

Still Skeptical? Heres a web compressed teaser frame grab:

Thanks guys! The big animation is still uploading, I let it go over night, looks like it failed :( Check back later for that one.

Animation clip is huge, not even going to bother

It's huge, but is also much better than the web version ;)

I suppose its more for people with really fast computers though, its quite labor intensive to play back. I can't wait to take this over to a post house and see it on a big HD monitor.

its 20 mb away, and i started downloading it when i wrote 'Animation clip is huge, not even going to bother' AHahahaa

LOL, The animation will show you zero banding in the clip. Thats what I hate about the web quicktime codecs, 8 bit isn't always enough, not to mention all the funny compression tricks on top of it.

Should have richer color, better tonality, deeper black. I suppose the black level depends on your monitor, but its certainly better ;)

This should also hold up far better if you import it into something like Avid for viewing on a monitor too, its just flat out better, and many people have requested an uncompressed clip anyways :P

Ok, I was looking over my project settings, this current animation was all posted at only 8 bit @$%@%^! So its technically not its best, working on making a newer one for the nit pickers like me out there.... at 16 bit.... But still, the current 8 bit animation is better than the web compressed version.

Oh I See..how old are you bro?

Old enough to work as a full time freelance DP :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

By the way, I spent about 2 months working on creating the LUTs I used to shoot this, so I'm feeling like a "proud papa" at the moment. My little LUTs seem to be working very well.

whats an LUT?

LUT stands for "Look Up Table", It's basically a curve on a graph, like this...

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/graphics/tut_curves_pswindow1.png

It's basically a table of input and out put values. The curves tool is a more graphical way of doing this instead of sitting around typing numbers into a huge grid of potentially thousands of inputs and outputs. How you draw the curve determines what information makes it from one bit depth to another, or in some cases, how you simply rearrange data in the same bit depth. Some LUTs are destructive, meaning they permanently alter image data, while others are not. Non destructive LUTs are basically overlays, they let you view how the image looks with the LUT applied, but do not actually alter the image data itself, photoshop layers are a good example of this.

I've been following your progress here and at the Reel-Stream forum, Chris. It's looking really, really good! I'm sorely tempted to invest in the Andromeda mod, but it's such a tough decision...! The image quality you've arrived at is incredible, but it's daunting to hear how much tweaking it's required.

Anyhow, kudos and keep it up! I'm always curious to download and view your work, regardless of the file size, so keep 'em coming :)
