Rendering video using Vegas 7 for Youtube...

The YouTube clips are too highly-compressed to tell if footage problems are result of the limitations of the camera. I'd have to see your raw footage.

Whoa -- sorry; misunderstood which camera you were using -- my bad!

Well, compressing a highly-compressed format like MPEG-2 can definitely lead to quality issues, but I thought you were more concerned with things like autofocus, etc., than in the camera recording format.

Still, it's hard to say what the issues are without seeing the raw footage.

I'm actually heading out of town and won't be back until next week, so I wouldn't be able to look at anything until then.

Ah right, nah I just thought auto focus might of been the issue but I'm guessing its the MPEG file type...I'm guessing there is no way of solving that then? I don't see any solution in sending the raw footage if it can't be found out how to overcome the problem.

EDIT: If I edited my raw footage (which is MPEG2-PS) and then once the project was completed it, output it as a uncompressed avi and then import that in a new project and rendered that, would that work? (For example the one I done with the quicktime pro...but I'm guessing it won't seeing as that didn't work either lol..)

Will using a Macbook make any difference to the quality output for youtube?

If not,

any other suggestions?

Will buying a HD Cam-corder help?

Macbook? Not in and of itself.

An HD camcorder? I suppose it'll add some benefit -- you start with a higher-res picture -- but I don't know that it would add anything really worth the cost considering how compressed YouTube is.

Do you have any examples of clips you consider bad? I think you might be expecting a little too much of YouTube.

One thing many people don't realize is that despite youtube re-encoding to 320x240, the DEFAULT size of the player is actually LARGER! It's SOOOOO stupid in my opinion. They actually downres it to 320x240, then turn around and play the freakin file at a scaled size that's bigger. Doh! There's a little tool you can click on the player to force it to play at 320x240, but no one uses it. So, that screws you right there no matter how you encode.

The other thing to keep in mind is that they have a 100 mb upload limit. SO TAKE ADVANTAGE of that. I shoot to encode as close to 100 mb file as I can regardless of how long the clip is. Try to use as high a bitrate as possible and come under their limit. FWIW, I render to MP4 640x480 straight out of Vegas for YouTube.
