It's still a HDV tape based setup. For the price you can get a HVX200 with coming in November of this year 32gb P2 cards.

The A1 for the price seems like a much better deal.

I don't own either a G1 or A1 yet, but was really impresses by the A1's footage for the price.

Hmm, $1650 additionally to record HD for 32 straight minutes. Not my cup of tea.

Beyond that, do you use a more elaborate system that you would actually utilize HD-SDI, genlock, time code, etc?

It's really a simple matter of whether or not you'll use those. If you absolutely will, pay the extra money. If you can get by with out, get the A1.

Great point. I want to experience and offer HD to some of my clients, but I am still satisfied with my 100's. Not really looking forward to spending $6000.00 when I can get HD for half the price. At this time I don't need all those bells and whistles and by the time I do something better would have come along.

Now as far as the HVX200, I would feel more confortable spending alittle more. I could see spend $5200.00 + an additional $1650.00 which is still around the price of the XHG1, but I get a better work flow in P2.

I just couldn't consider the HVX200 because I wanted to shoot HD to tape, and certainly didn't want to try affording P2 cards. That's me. If the work flow works fine, and you could do fine with just one 32GB P2 card for now, then sure, why not. The HVX200 is an awesome camera.

So are you saying you would lean more toward the XHG1, over the HVX because of the HDV TAPABILITY (I couldn't help it). :)

right now you really can't beat the quality you get with the a1 for the price. But it really all comes down to what you need in terms of a camera. The a1, g1 and dvx all have there pros and cons. research and decide what camera suits your needs best. I chose the a1 and couldn't be happier.
