Received PR announcement from Panasonic on Sept 7 announcing 32 gb cards to ship in November at a suggested list of $1650. Announcement also notes that no additional upgraded is needed to use 32 gb cards; any device which has been upgraded to work with 16 gb will work with 32 gb.

Awesome news.
So awesome that I predict that within 24 hours there will be at least 3 to 5 threads on this same announcement.
:)

Was there any mention of this affecting 16GB card pricing?
Seeing as 16GB cards are at $900, it probably won't.

I don't think I'd want to be trusting microdrives with my footage.
:)

Agreed. I'm still looking forward to the days of solid-state hard drive equivalents for my PC (for a reasonable price, anyway, I know they exist now).

While I'm glad to see the 32gb cards on the way, I still think it's a shame they don't sell the 4gb and 8gb cards anymore. A $500 8gb card and a $300 4gb card would still be great deals, even with the lower record times.

Absolutely.
Or possibly even continue to manufacture the 4gb cards and include them with the camera.
Like back in the day when video cameras came with 5 minute tapes.
:)

(okay, that was a LONG time ago, I know)

If you could get the camera home before the velociraptors got you...

My 4 gig cards are still going strong, and the pricing does get pretty absurd what with the 16 gig iPod touches being 1/3 the price of the 16 gig P2 card (and with all those other pretty features & touch screen etc). Had Sony gone with non-proprietary tech for their cam that would have definitely dropped the price of P2 in response, but I guess Sony realised there's still some milk to get out of that teat

sure, Panasonic will be shipping 32s in 2 months or so.. yeah right
well after NBC and FOX and the Boogey Man buy up all 30 of the initial run of cards where will that leave us...

Love my HVX, HATE the P2 situation.

anyone heard anything new about the Hoodman H2 cards? Are they still gonna cost 30% cheaper than the Panasonic P2 cards? I think i read on another thread that they where shipping late OCT. but for how much? If they work as well as the P2 cards, forget about the panasonic's p2 price ride. i'm stepping off.

No major developments yet as far as I know.
I'm sure that within 30 seconds of there being some news, we'll see it posted here.

I also want to know how FCP is gonna handle the hoodman H2 cards. I'm really suprised by the lack of info on this product since NAB.

FCP wouldn't know or care what media the material is recorded on -- it's an IT-based workflow.

Some good freakin' news then. I too wish they continued to sell and make the 4 gig cards. I like being able to back them up to cheap DVDs.. I feel safer having it on HD and DVD.

So maybe by this time next year they'll have the 64 gig cards.. wow...

I am hoping for something to cure the P2 woes too. Hoodman, or more runs of Panasonic products. Just Something.

I haven't bought any P2 cards in a year because of the shortages/ vaporware/ discontinued products/ etc.

Maybe the 35mm Adapter guys can cook something up? THEY seem to have their finger on the pulse.

Don't know why people are still having trouble finding and buying P2 cards. Yes, they are scarce but in the past 3 months, I bought three 8GB cards, and two 16GB cards, from various dealers. Just get on their lists, I never had to wait much more than a week.

Bought from Studio Exchange, Abel and EVS, they have all been getting them in.

There are P2 cards to buy, you just have to go to the right sources.
