Hi all,

I have a couple of projects that I just got (sold my old cameras), and am looking to buy a new DVX... does anyone know of a reputable dealer who has this item in stock?

There are so many out there and I pretty much know not to trust anyone on the east coast (I have recently had a bad experience with B&H too)... any help is greatly appreciated...

Thank you in advance!

I got my DVC30 from J&R. adorama is also good. but may i ask how its possible that you had a bad experience with B&H?

I tried calling them last week about a used DVX they had and I could not get through... I waited on hold for over 20 minutes until I was disconnected. I tried again same thing. I tried one more time, got through to a guy who ended up jerkin' me around on the phone acting like he couldn't hear me... he kept saying "Greg?, Greg?" and was laughing... so that ticked me off... then I tried one more time the day after and still couldn't get through.

I have purchased from them before (online) with good results - but actually dealing with their "physical" customer service was an eye-opener. I will never deal with them again. Looking at their most recent store reviews would suggest that I am not alone.

It seems like the cam is out of stock everywhere.... what gives? Does anyone here think Panasonic replacing them perhaps with a newer model?

I have had pretty bad luck dealing with people in NY. I know I am from the Midwest and now the Mountains but it seems there is absolutely NO customer service in the northeastern states. Other than a company named, 17th Street Photo they seemed nice but every other outfit I talked to in that part of the country was a HUGE TURNOFF definitely not places I want to give $3k-5k of my money. //g

I just placed my order G&G today and they over-nighted it and it should be here tomorrow. They are an authorized reseller as well. I had a nightmare weekend dealing with J&R Music World and they screwed up my order and did not have the camera and just made yesterday and this morning pretty miserable. I placed the order with G&G and then called to make sure they had them in stock. They seem to have several. Comes with warranty, DVX Book and software. If you order from them ask for Mike in sales. He worked with me all morning and was able to get the order processed and mailed successfully. They were courteous and quick, like most east coast folk.

I am now anxiously waiting a call from my lady letting me know the camera has arrived. May be the best call of the year so far. I'll let you know if I have any problems but I doubt it. Here is their link:

Thanks Derrick and carter... I think I'm gonna go used for now (to try and save a little more), as I have a hunch that Panasonic may be up for a refresh... so I am gonna try to save up for that puppy...

If you are willing to spend $2k for a 100a, you should spend a few hundred more and get a 100B. In my experience it is well worth it.

Hi K-Dikian,

We really seem to be in the same boat and I have been all over the place looking for a camera in this range that fits my requirements. All I can tell you is to be very cautious with most of the stores in the East coast. Check the authorized list somewhere on this forum. I have also tried purchasing on Ebay but that in itself for items of that amount isn't a good one as you will end up with one of those scam stores. They try to talk you into buying other accessories and if you refuse, they tell you the item will take 6-8weeks or even 6 months to process your order.

I will advise you go for a new DVX-100B. It has newer features than the 100A. Buying new will at also give you a year of mfg warranty and if you buy from now to Dec 31st 2007, you get free software from Red Giant (FREE copies of Red Giant Software's Magic Bullet Editors 2 software ($395.00 retail value) and Instant HD software ($129.00 retail value), and a FREE copy of The DVX Book + DVD by Barry Green (a $69.95 retail value)!. This can enable you jumpstart and test the waters for moving to HD and all other good stuff. I just placed my order at newegg for $2514 (total including shipping). I was glad I wasn't forced to buy extra warranty or accessories like other sites usually do. I called them repeated to confirm that they are an authorized dealer of Panasonic and they did confirm that and that their merchandize qualifies for the free softwares.

This DVX-100B model has been out of stock in most places for the past 2 months but they seem to be coming back on the shelf again. So go for it if you need it.

i didn't think that newegg was an authorized dealer but they do offer the book and the software. I actually tried to order with them and when the order was submitted they sent me an error message saying they are out of stock. I stumbled upon G&G Technologies on this site and they got me the camera overnight. I just got it last week and shot a live show for my friends' record label. I am looking forward to getting Barry Green's book and learning how to use this camera. It was frustrating trying to use it in a dark club the first time but I did get some good footage and it is great being able to set up mics and run them with phantom power off the camera.

good luck with your search

Here is a sample of the video from Friday.

I thought they weren't authorized dealers too, but they confirmed that they were authorized dealers. I have received my DVX and it looks perfect. I called Panasonic directly to confirm Newegg.com's status and they also confirmed that they are an authorized dealer. Call (866) 339-4296 if in doubt.

Good luck.

Just buy a 100B from eBay and save some bux. Usually can get extras and for the 100B they usually include the software he mentioned also.

My experience on eBay ("with the purchase of a DVX or HVX camera") hasn't been a pleasant one . To shed this amount of bucks on a DVX/HVX on eBay isn't advisable in my opinion. There is too much exposure to gray mkt stuff and dubious vendors and sellers who try to bundle any item possible after luring you in with incredibly low prices. At the same time it is not impossible to get good deals on eBay for items like this (if its a producer trying to sell some of his/her equipments) but that doesn't happen all the time.

There is a lot of energy that needs to be channeled towards creative and fulfilling activities with the DVX toy. Trying to cut cost or corners by buying from the "too good to be true" deals that you will usually see on eBay or those online stores in my opinion isn't worth the headache, hassles, pain and lost creative time that one has to contend with after the fact.

eBay is a great place to buy and sell. I buy and sell there as well. But for items like the DVX, HVX or just any prosumer camera, I will tread with caution.

What difference does gray market make with a used, out of warranty DVX from eBay? I agree never buy from the "super deal" sellers, but I bought 2 DVXs from sellers with 100% ratings who said they were DPs or directors, and have had no problems with them in 2 years. Not a scratch on either one, and I saved a pretty penny.
