RED Officialy Shipping Next Friday -- thoughts? Any feelings?

You mean threads like this:

Jannard: Just wanted to let everyone know we decided to use philips head screws on the rear bracket instead of of flat head screws.

Fanboy #1: Awesome news Jim!
Fanboy #2: You rock Jim!
Fanboy #3: I bet Sony uses flat head screws, idiots.
Fanboy #4: You're a God Jim.
Fanboy #5: Philips head screws - yes!!! The revolution has begun!!!

Yep! In fact that thread was the straw that broke this camel's back.

reading about those fanboys makes me want to write to my congressman or something...ugh what a world we live in. #1 and #2 aren't that bad, but 3-5 makes me want to go all exorcist shooting the green pea soup out and twisting my head around.

So.... Let them have their moment. This is a big event for people who invested a lot of time and energy into the whole RED thing.

No need to be a "hater" either.

Those "Fanboys" took a risk. The first 25 took a risk in investing in whatever is to become of the RED.

Now the camera is released. Time will tell.

Nobody ever got anywhere without taking risks.

It's quite obvious that there are people who are very passionate about this... on both sides of the fence. From Vaporware to Fanboy...

Now the camera is real. It's out there. So, look at the footage. What's the benefit in anyone wasting time calling names on a forum? Some people take a risk. Others sit back and wait and see. And others just sit still (usually while dreaming, or while bitching and moaning).

Let the folks at RED and the early adopters (the risk takers) have their moment. No need to piss on it.

Not meaning to take anything away from them, I'm wrapped about the camera coming out (and slightly flabbergasted at just how quickly it's come together). I even wrote an article about it for a media magazine down here.

What I was saying was simply that the fanboyism (I can't think of a better word to describe it) on Reduser.net was what drove me away from following the camera's development in greater detail, just as I imagine the first user reports of the camera's abilities will drive me straight back there in the coming weeks.

Is it me, or can this camera see in the dark? =(

I think when(if) they introduce a sub 10k pocket RED, that thing will sell like cocaine in prison.

Tests were done up to ISO 8,000 where the image stayed clean with no noise. Noise did start to become noticable at ISO 32,000. Don't know about ISO 16,000 as they skipped that setting during testing.

Some jokes were made about the new Red portable lighting kit being a Bic lighter and some birthday candles.

Yes Grug, we get it. You don't like people embracing a product that fits their needs.

I recall the DVX100 having similiar feelings from people. We embraced the progressive and its magic gamma when no other product on the marketplace was offering it at that pricepoint

And we got slammed for it from the Canon and Sony crowd. The other manufactures are starting to finally get it and have evened up the playing field. But don't spoil the fun for everyone if your not as stoked on something :P

I'm eager to see what Red can do. It only confirms that Hollywoods technology will be in our own hands soon enough at realistic prices for our budgets (The indiependent struggling filmmakers!)

Damn, imagine shooting PESTILENCE on Red !

Well, I stayed up all night following that first pictures thread.

I officially have camera envy. =D When they say it looks like film, it really does and it's not just that it LOOKS like film... it MOVES like film, if that makes any sense.

I would stare at the 2K footage and try to find any point it MOVED like video and I couldn't detect it... so it's pretty much official as far as the image goes: game over.

The Camera is here, it's not vaporware, and the Risk Takers have every right to go nuts.

Twenty years ago people were stoked about Panasonic's MII technology. Unfortunately those that invested heavily in MII ended up with nothing to show for it except a loss on the balance sheet.

Healthy skepticism is a good thing.

This was shot ASA 320 without any fill on the subject. Look at the dynamic range on display here!
