MacbookPro as monitor for A1

get the program "Monitor Magic"......pretty cool. Even gives you the option to flip the image if you are using a 35mm adaptor.

I downloaded a try version....

and I thought it works great. Yes you use firewire and I thought the delay wasnt bad at all. It even auto-detects the camera for easy setup. I use a Macbook Pro and the setup is perfect. I have yet to purchase the program but I will shortly for a music video coming up.

Try the demo and mess around with it in your room. The program isnt expensive to buy either.

I have Adobe OnLocation (former Serious Magic DV Rack HD or so) and run it in Bootcamp (XP) on a high res 17" MBP screen. Works great for focusing and framing but due to the delay not well as main monitor for smooth movements. We tried it on a crane and that's were this soultion failed. Other than that the firewire & laptop combo works great for monitoring. And having the additional software tools like vectorscope etc. is helpful as well.

Oh, and recording an m2t stream directly to MBP (internal 7200RPM drive) with OnLocation worked swell too.
