*Canon A1 For Sale*

I am selling our Canon A1. It includes everything in the original box plus one extra Canon BP950 battery and a three year extended warranty from Techshield, which I am told is much better than the Mack extended warranty. I am also including a $200 credit for any training materials in our online store.

We bought the camera in April and have used it for about 12 weddings ceremonies. It was our third camera during the ceremony only. Those ceremonies lasted between 30-45 minutes. We also used it for a third camera for 5-6 weddings during the First Dance and Parent Dances, which in worse case would last a total of 15 minutes. The camera was not used for the entire wedding day, only for the events listed above. The camera was not used to capture footage to the computer.

Based on the above times, the camera has about 10 hours on it.

The camera, extra battery and Techshield warranty total a value of $3670 and with the $200 store credit takes the value to $3870. I am selling it for $3200 plus actual shipping charges.

The reason I'm selling? It doesn't fit well with our two Z1s, so I'm looking to replace it with a Sony FX1.

Please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

Hi Skrott,

I will sell the battery seperately only if the buyer of the camera does not want the battery. Are the batteries in short supply?

Wait... so you can get a BRAND new one from B&H for $3250, or you could buy your used one with an extra battery for $3200 plus shipping?

Buying used isn't worth the risk when you're only saving a couple hundred bucks. If you really want to sell this, I suggest lowering your price.

Not trying to ruin your sale, but I am looking out for fellow DVXusers.

i agree....that is pricey for a used A1.....especially if you are saying you used it for 17 weddings. That is ateast 100 hours of use.

Hi RC,

Thanks for the input, but when you add the second battery and the Techshield 3 year warranty the value goes up to $3670. Then if you add in the $200 worth of training videos, the package value is $600 more than just an A1 from B&H without the extras. If the extras are of no value to the buyer, then you are correct. Just buy a brand new one from B&H.

Hi Wes,

I agree if the camera had 100 hours on it, but it doesn't. I said it was used for 12 weddings, not 17. On those 12 weddings it was used as the third camera for the ceremony. I don't recall doing any Catholic ceremony's, so most of those ceremonies lasted from 30-45 minutes.

I then said that it was used on about 5-6 First Dances and Parent Dances as a third camera.

So having said all of that, the total hours are around the 10 hour mark and not the above mentioned 100 hour mark.

Thanks for helping me to put a total hours of use to the equation.

who wants the training videos??? nobody
the xtra batter is 130 and the 100 hours of use bring the condtion down to used and should be at least 15% if not 20% off the orignal price

He said around 10 hours, not 100. And... there may be people out there interested in the training videos (maybe).

I think we've said our peace, people know what they're getting into, so...

Good luck with the sale.

Hi KROOKEDKROWN,

Thanks for helping me mathmatically determine what the price of a used camera should be. Based on your equation of 100 hours of use equals up to 20% off, then 10 hours of use equals 2% off. That would make the package price $3597, so my price of $3200 is a great deal, using your equation.

Then the training training DVDs are just icing on the cake. But you are correct. Who wants the training videos, right. That's the reason that I have sold them in 50 states and 30 foreign countries, because nobody want them.

well whoever pays 3200 for a used camera with a crappy warranty "that in no way size shape or form is better then a Mack warranty" IS a fool Youd be lucky if you sold it for 2,950 but you think you know so good luck

Hi KROOKEDKROWN,

I'm really trying to understand your logic. First you say 100 hours of use should take the price down by 15-20%. I replied saying that the camera has 10 hours, so that would take the price down by 2%, using your own mathmatical equation.

Now you want to throw out your original pricing structure and say that the warranty is no good. Do you have any experience with Techshield? I have had many bad experiences with Mack and I have the pictures and emails to prove it.

Why do you have to go down to the level of name calling? I do not consider that to be professional. It is possible to disagree without dropping to the level you have lowered yourself to.

I was just averaging that if you shot the wedding, you probably did receptions or rehearsal dinners.....blah blah blah.....which is still part of the wedding. Plus all the time that you might have used the tape heads to capture onto your computer. Just trying to help a buyer realize that they should know if they shoot an hour of footage, that is 2 hours of head time due to capturing.

so.....12 weddings and 5 other events.....just want people to be aware.

anyone who pays more than $2800 for this is a fool. That is only $400 less than a brand new one.

Hi Wes,

Okay, I understand. I need to better explain how the camera was and was not used.

The camera was not used for entire receptions and rehearsal dinners. The camera was not used for preparations and all of the other things that happen during a wedding day.

The camera was used for about 12 wedding ceremonies. Not the entire wedding day. Those 12 ceremonies lasting between 30-45 minutes would equal about 6-9 hours of time.

Of those 12 wedding ceremonies, it was used for about 5-6 First Dance and Parent Dances, which if they had 3 seperate songs, ( some do and some don't) it would be a max of 15 minutes times 6 would be 1.5 hours.

The camera has not been used to capture footage to the computer.

Based on all of the above information, the camera has about 10 hours on it.

So with the extra battery and three year Techshield extended warranty, the new price value is at $3670.

Yes, you can buy a brand new A1 without the extended warranty and extra battery for $3500, and then wait to receive the $250 rebate. Or, you can buy my A1 with 10 hours on it, an extra battery, three year warranty and a $200 store credit for training materials for $3200.

Thanks for helping me clear that up Wes.
