Another Heinz Entry - In Your Face!

We submitted three, only one has made it into the official list ... too bad, too. One of the ones not listed was submitted the day before the deadline. The one that DID make it, is #3050, and was submitted on Saturday, two days before the deadline.

Did they give you a response as to why the others were not submitted to the contest? By the way, Norm, the video was shot very very well. Very impressive and i'm looking forward to hearing some type of exciting news that you were in the top 15.

no. I hear ya man. its alot more work. and if they are not being consistent, then they really need to answer questions to those of us who are on the border.
September 16th, wow. where did you see that. Please let me know.

My bad, haha. I guess I really do suck at reading the fine print. It does indeed say September 16th, but I was thinking it was September (as opposed to August) for some reason and that tomorrow would be the day that the results were released. My bad. So I guess I have time for them to send me a "no" email or a "sure, we'll let you slide" email.

From what I understand, the top 15 are announced on the 27/28th of August. From there, it's 14 days of voting, open to the public, with the votes closing on Sept 10th. From there, they announce the top winner & the four runner ups on the 16th of Sept.

If you look at their profile page on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/TopThisTV), you'll see a huge announcement they've made, that in a nutshell says too bad, so sad. The only thing I don't get is they said that a BUNCH of entries are stuck with the number 3989 ... if so, how do we confirm if ours are in there, etc.

Sorry for the hijack, Siniarch ... not intended ... this thread just kind of drew everyone to talk about their experiences, I guess.

'Cuz your spot is SO stinkin' good & entertaining!

I believe what they are actually *trying* to say is that there are 3989 entries showing up on the YouTube Heinz Contest... 179 are duplicates in one way or another... that makes 3810 actual entries in the Heinz Contest group. The way I understand it is that they have 358 entries that are not in the Heinz Contest group but are eligible for the contest, bringing the total of eligible entries to 4168.

That means that we still could be in the running if our entries happen to be in that final, un-grouped 358.

Oh, and our entry again is "The Ransom"

Enjoy and good luck everyone!

This is on the Heinz site:

A number of participants have expressed that they received a "Thank You for Registering Message," yet are not able to view their video on the contest site. We have confirmed that these participants failed to join the Contest Group as outlined in the "official rules" quoted below. Unfortunately, these participants did not fully complete the process and were not successfully entered into the contest.

As outlined in the "Official Rules," in order to successfully enter the contest, participants needed to follow a two-step process:

The first step was to.... "go to the Top This TV Contest Brand Channel on YouTube and join the Contest Group. When you have successfully joined the Contest Group, click 'Upload Videos.'"

The second step was to..."return to the Contest Web Site (www.TopThisTV.com) to register your Submission. To register, click on the "Submit Your Video" link and enter the requested information."

Due to the passionate outpouring by all participants, we are exploring the technical feasibility of establishing a dedicated site to post all appropriate videos, including those that failed to successfully enter the contest.

In closing, we would like to once again express our heartfelt thanks to every Director, Writer, Actor, Singer, and Producer (and any other person) that took the time to participate in the Heinz Top This TV Challenge.

UPDATE: (8/15/07 4:53pm EST)
Dear Heinz Top This TV Challenge Participants:

We at Heinz would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to every Director, Writer, Actor, Singer, and Producer that took the time to participate in Heinz Top This TV and to provide you with an update on our process. Whether your unique entry was in the form of a rap, monologue, animated skit, or traditional spot, your passion, creativity, and humor affirmed that Heinz Ketchup lovers are among the most talented people in the country.

Over the course of the submission period, we received 6,196 total entries. Each submission was carefully screened by the Heinz Top This TV team using objective criteria outlined in our official rules (e.g.., video length, use of copyrighted material, etc.). Of the total submissions, 4,168* were approved as eligible and uploaded on the Heinz Top This TV contest page. From the beginning, it was our sincere desire to post every submission on Heinz Top This TV. Unfortunately however, a number of videos were non-compliant with our official rules and we had no choice but to reject them.

In the days since the close of the submission period we have received a number of inquiries from participants asking why their videos have not been posted to the Heinz Top This TV web site. As outlined in the official rules, the registration process requires two steps: 1) Uploading the Video to Top This TV Challenge Contest Page on YouTube; 2) Registering the video on the topthistv.com web site. In the event the participant did not follow the two step process, the video was not registered and uploaded into the contest. We want to let you know that we have heard you and share your disappointment in not being able to accept entries past the deadline. We appreciate the time, energy and passion you have put into your videos and we only wish that legally we could still accept videos to the contest; however, unfortunately we must follow the rules that stated all submissions must be received by midnight EST August 6.

At this point, the Heinz Top This TV team has reviewed and evaluated every eligible submission. Regretfully, if you have not already received e-mail notification, your ad was not successfully submitted to the contest. We will soon be contacting the semi-finalists who may be eligible to proceed to the next round, Consumer Internet Voting, which will commence on/ or about August 27, 2007 and end on/ or about September 10, 2007. The contest winners will be announced and aired on National TV during the middle of September. A separate announcement will be forthcoming that outlines our broadcast plan.

Due to the passionate outpouring by all participants, we are exploring the technical feasibility of establishing a dedicated site for all appropriate videos.

In closing, we would like to once again express our heartfelt thanks to every Director, Writer, Actor, Singer, and Producer (and any other person) that took the time to participate in the Heinz Top This TV Challenge.

Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us at: Heinzconsumeraffairs@us.hjheinz.com.

Sincerely,
The Heinz Top This TV Team

*The Heinz Top This TV web page count currently shows 3,989 videos. Exactly 179 videos are listed under the same number. Each of these 358 videos was reviewed and tracked by video name and submitter. (more) (less)

Sorry to see you guys didn't get in ... neither did ours apparently. Your posting this file up just made me realize to check today. Looking at the top 15 they chose, there are a few REALLY well made ones, and then a few it looks like they tossed a dart at the board to choose them.

Oh well, congrats on a well made commercial, nonetheless!

Thanks Norm.

I just can't imagine what was going through the minds of the judges. There were so many great entries that did not get picked. And some awful ones that did. The "uncap the smile" is my favorite, and I belive it was made by a fellow DVXuser (I know Vahe who we rented our Car Suction Rig from was involved in that one)

Good luck guys.

And sorry to the ones that didn't make.

Hey guys, sorry you didn't get in (I didn't either). I agree wholeheartedly with Norm's sentiments. There are 4 or 5 really great ones, and then a bunch of what I consider well below par.

Vahe (who shot my Kinetica piece) shot "Uncap the Smile" but did not direct it. Looks great, though. I definitely count it as one of the few that belongs up there. Oh well! Good pieces for our reels, at least!

WHAT??? WHY WASN'T THIS ONE IN THE TOP 15??? It is way better than some that is up on the top 15...... did Heinz say anything about this?

JM

Can anyone give links to the other good ones? I'd like to see the good ones that didn't make it to the top 15.

I agree with Matt. I think they didn't pick any that had Heinz Ketchup being portrayed as blood. But there are a buch that were better that some of the ones they selected that fit that bill. I just can't understand some of their decisions.
Here is my list of the ones I liked. I didn't get a chance to double check it. Some might not be right:

1132
1186
1260
1267
1741
3612
3703
3770
3804
3827
3829
3595
3238

enjoy. :)

Agreed--I saw quite a few that presented the product in ways that seemed pretty obvious to be a no-go for the corporate mindset. Chugging ketchup, using it as blood etc. I probably went too far the other way in mine and didn't incorporate the product enough visually.

Matty, I only wish I had paid attention to your signature as I desperately needed an HVX this past weekend for pickups on a Seinfeld project I've been shooting, and the rental houses were out of them. Instead I shot it on my A1, mistakenly thinking that the transcoding/deinterlacing process from 1080i to DVCPROHD would be a no-brainer--oy vey. There went my Monday (including high-speed dash to Fedex in Eagle Rock to get the footage out to the client--didn't make it)
