Starting A Film/HVX Group - Greater Toronto Area

Hi,

I have access to a space... (a pottery studio actually) on Sunday & Monday nights. It's located near Vaughn Mills Mall, is reasonably large and would be a great place to meet and discuss each others projects, test out equipment, or even have screenings.

I've just moved back from Los Angeles where I lived for 20 years. I own my own HVX, Brevis 35mm adaptor, various nikon lens, a couple of lighting kits and some audio equipment. I would love the opportunity to meet with other people who have the same passion for filmmaking that I do. I'm hoping that there is enough interest to make this a regular thing.

It's come to my attention that my subject line was a little misleading. Some people thought that I was limiting this group to HVX owners. While I personally own an HVX, my intententions were not to make that a limiting factor. I was really interested in putting together a group of like minded people who were passionate about filmmaking, regardless of what equipment they owned, or even if they owned any equipment at all. I just wanted to give people a chance to meet, network, share knowledge and possibly help each other out on each others projects. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. Hopefully, it is now and we'll see a little more interest. I must admit, I've been a little disappointed at the response. I really would love this to happen. I think all involved could benefit. Thanks.

By the way... here is a link to a few tests I did a few days ago. These were done with the HVX200 and Brevis 35mm adaptor. Hope you enjoy.

Great Simone. One vote for Monday. I know people have to work, so I was thinking 6PM-7PM for a start time. Hopefully we'll get some more reponses. I'd really love for this to become a regular thing.

I own an HVX, letus flip, bogen 501, a few lenses, and am slowly outfitting my kit.

I am willing to help with projects, but my summer is very hectic, so no promises yet.

But come fall and voila, your camera capability just doubled.

Monday seems the best choice at the moment

Thanks for responding. Hopefully we'll get a few more people. So far two votes for Monday. I'll PM everyone with details when we've got enough to make this worthwhile. Keeping my fingers crossed that there is enough interest out there. I really think this could be a great way to network and share knowledge.

Just a quick update.

4 people on another users group have expressed an interest in being part of the film group, so with the two people here, we now have a total of six people. That's not bad, but it would be great if we could get a few more, so I'm going to give it another week and then pick a date for the first meeting.

Remember, this isn't limited to people with HVX's. In fact, you don't have to own equipment at all. You just need to have a passion for film and an interest in sharing info, learning and possibly helping on each others productions.

I hope there are a few more people out there. I think this could benefit all involved. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

The meeting is definitely taking place this upcoming Monday Aug. 13 at 7pm. I will be bringing my HVX200 and Brevis 35mm adaptor for anyone who is interested in taking a look. Since this is just the first meeting, there won't be any specific agenda, but instead will be more of an opportunity for all to meet and for me to gage how much interest there is for future gatherings. If there's enough interest, and I'm hoping there will be, I would absolutely like to make this a regular thing. Future meetings would include screenings, testing of equipment (I've got a new green screen and small crane I'd like to play with) and of course, discussion of each others projects and how the collective might be able to help.

The location I have access to is very comfortable and low key. I think it's a perfect place for us to hang out, have a pizza, discuss film. I've already replied to Jiovanni's PM, but I wanted to mention this.

I Won't be able to attend this next meeting. I will be in Arkansas on work. I will attend any meeting that are held from the 17th and on (barring more work trips)

I'm hoping attendance is good (no help from me).

I am in the Hamilton Area and do have some equipent Sony Z1u and Jib 20 ft, and a few friends more in the acting side and other semi pro people always looking for something to do.

It's open to anyone who has a passion for film and wants to meet like-minded people. This first meeting is just for people to meet and to gage how much interest there is in making this a regular thing.

I know that I'm very serious about this and hope that anyone who shows up is too. I can see this becoming a great collaborative where people share ideas and experience. A place where we test equipment, have screenings, support each others projects, etc.

I know Hamilton is a fair distance away, so you'll have to decide if you think it will be worth your time. I've commited the idea, my equipment, my time and a place for us to meet. I plan on giving this my all. If a dozen people show up with the same intent and passion, I think that group could become a pretty powerful force. I think we could all benefit from that.

Meeting was a huge success

Meeting was a huge success

Just wanted to report that our first meeting last night went really really well. Everyone had a great time and we've all agreed that we should make this a regular thing.
