:grin:After having the FS-100 and it's limitations, ie. no over/under cranking etc.. etc. etc... I now have the new 16GB P2, I did the firmware updae flawlessly in one try, and now playing with my new capabilities, just knowing that hi-capacity card is in there and my camera functions different that before is awesome.. I LOVE IT!

Long Live P2:grin:

Congrats! I finally received a call, and follow confirmation email, that my 200 is on its way. Unfortunately, my 16GB P2 card is still on back order.

I'll take the P2 card wait time and start learning the camera.

Ho...

I found one on Ebay, a guy bought 2 of them, but then got a set back on buying an HVX200 so he put the cards on Ebay for a $850 each buy-it-now, I bought one and the other whent just as fast.. Excellent buy, it was brand new in box!

I got lucky!

On my Ebay Watched Items, a 16GB P2 last week went for $1250!!!!!! And a 8GB P2 went for $900---!!! People are going CRAZY to get them, its insane, I would never pay that, I have patients myself..

FS-100 with 3.0 has lots of limitations -- no ability to record & play back overcrank/undercrank, no audio playback if you record in PN modes, no metadata, no thumbnail playback of clips, all sorts of things. The FS-100 does one thing better than P2, which is larger capacities. But when P2 capacities grow to become "big enough", the whole hard-disk-recording thing is likely to disappear.

3 x 8 Gigs = No need for Firestore already.

Offload-while-shooting Cycle. Low Offload times. And just small enough to archive on cheap Dual Layer DVDs.

Winrar.

AMEN Barry on those Limitations! Seems like theres more but I cant think of them, seems like everytime you want to use the HVX200 to the fullest, POW! Another FS-100 Limitation!

Now with the P2, when I hit the record bitton, INSTANTANEOUS FRAME RECORDING, soooo cooool!

And I LOVE the playback on the camera itself! It seems so smooth and perfect! I love the thumb nail images too

Panny must've shipped out some 16gb's early this week, I got my 16gb P2 on the way! And one of the other stores I was on a pre order list called me yesterday too, to see if I still wanted one. I was so tempted to buy another!

No, you didn't miss anything -- you *have* to conform it in post. The P2 cards don't make you do that.

So if you're in the field shooting a shot, you play it back from the cards and you see the effect immediately. You know right then and there what your final shot looks like.

With the FS-100 that workflow isn't possible. You have to import the footage into a computer before you can see the VFR effect and know what your shot really looks like.

That may change in a forthcoming firmware revision; that's why I said that in 3.0 it doesn't have that capability.

You can record VFR footage in 3.0, but you cannot see the effect in-camera.

(which brings up another limitation too -- in v3.0, FS-100 has no space savings when recording VFR; if you shoot at anything other than 24/25/30, it gives you "over 60" recording only. On the P2 cards, shooting at 12fps gives you 5x as much recording space, on the FS-100 v3.0 shooting at 12fps gives you the same amount of recording space as shooting 60fps would).

I've had my 16GB (rebate) for about a month now, after having just the FS100. To be able to watch your slow-mo back is RIDICULOUSLY SWEET. When you spend an hour prepping one :15 dolly shot, you really want to be able to check it out and make sure you got it right.

I've been thinking about selling my FS100 and with the money getting a cheap MB and another P2 card, while I can still get a decent buck for the FS100.

I sold my brand new FS-100 two weeks ago that i paid $1750 for only 2 months ago and I got only $1220 for it, ever since the 16GB P2's came out the value for an FS-100 on Ebay has dropped FAST, before the 16GB came out you could re-sell your FS-100 and get almost full value ($1650-1750) as the 16 GB P2 cards are available more steadily, I see the re-sale price of the FS-100 sinking further, thats another huge reason I dumped mine on the market like stocks, SELL SHORT THE FS-100!!!...

Surprised that FS people aren't fervently on here defending it. I had one experience with it.. and it was HORRIBLE. Was one of the first versions but we had corrupted files and it stopped working and you only get one chance to make a first impression and they made a bad one. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't down to a grand soon enough. Now, if they make a solid-state harddrive version then might be something. I can't wait for all HD to be that way

Using different media doesn't make the FS-100 any more attractive to me.

The shortcomings that I see in their product have more to do with the somewhat unreliable connection with the camera and inferior integration when compared to shooting on P2 cards. Shooting on flash memory wouldn't improve this at all and only raise the cost.

right. Well this is why they never released the cineporter either. Kind of like the buggy whip.. cars come out no need for horses so bye bye to the whip to drive it all along.

The only question and the one that I am really hesistant about going onto the 16gigers is archival and backup. Until blue ray is out and affordable leaving files on HD seems shaky to me. Now I just back up to DVD. it's clean easy and cheap.. what are the alternatives for 16 gig without breaking up into quicktime files or something else.. but keeping the MXF will be tough

The Cineporter would not have had the limitations of the FS-100 -- it would have used a far more robust connection, and it would have allowed the use of all of the things that make P2 cool, like PN recording (supported with the V3 FS-100 firmware), VFR recording, format agnostic recording, clip manipulation from the camera, clip playback with audio and seek capability, the ability to configure all recording options on a single device and through one menu etc.
