Any Tricks on Rack focusing the A1

I have an A1 and I find it to be one of the harder cameras to get a nice rack focus shot. I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how they achieve a nice rack shot.

Best way is to use the zoom to frame initially and add an extra foot or two of distance between your actors. They will appear about the same, but it should give you a little more when you pull focus.

I then measure the focal point of each with my trusty tape measure - less than $1. Then pull the focus. Nice and easy is the name of the game with the A1.

Thanks ncje I was able to get a nice rack shot doing what you said but damn its alot of work I wish there was an easyer way

Also, don't forget the zoom/focus preset. Just set both focus or zoom points. Then slide the switch to on and it should do the focusing or zooming on its own.

Other tips:
Open your aperture as much as you can (smaller DOF)
Compose your shot so you can zoom in as much as possible

Let me know if this helps.

And to add to that. Use your ND's, buy an extra ND, or use a polariser as well to knock light out so you can keep that baby open. It all depends on what your looking for in your shot.
