HVX Persian Music Video

This is a video for a Persian artist called "Kami". Song is in Farsi. All done on the HVX with no lens adapter. I shot all the performance on a white cyc with a crapload of light. I blew out the background in camera for the most part. The composites are done with various blend modes and motion tracking. I would have greenscreened the performance if I had known I would be doing all this compositing but that idea came up post shoot. Shot 720pn/24. Hope u like.

My server is slow sometimes. You can try to stream but prob better off downloading. 50mb. 640x360

I have no idea what he was singing about, but I watched the whole video -- very polished. I liked the desaturated look and the composites on the handheld shots tracked beautifully.

I have no idea what he was singing about......

lol.. i have no idea either. i get notes sometimes, sometimes not. however, i have done a ton of these and they are all pretty much about the same thing, women, love, heartbreak, etc.

all the info i got about this one is that the bit with the giant book makes sense towards the end. not much to go on but the client loves the video so whatever..

glad u liked. thanks!!!!

I loved how good and polished the look was. I was impressed with the tracking (it was so smooth).

Did you use After Affects?

You're client has perfectly shaped eyebrows.......maybey too perfect. lol

actually i used apple motion for the compositing. the new tracking stuff actually works really well. most of the shots i didn't even have to touch the keyframes. the software nailed it. i was very surprised. lol on the eyebrows. pretty boy indeed.

Motion 3 makes everything easier now-a-days.

Best thing to me was the use of practicals. Passing vehicles, televisions on the corners, etc. That was a rather clever idea.

nice video! I have been trying to learn that effect of projecting video on buildings/walls as in your video. any ideas? link to a tutorial web page?
good job on the video

Hello there,
Few things I wanted to point out. First, the color correction was excellent concidering the fact that some images were blown. Two, the editing was in sync with the song, but a few editing glitches on the transitions. Overall, the cam work was good, but safe. However, the editing and the concept of the vid was spot on for the musical style. Oh yes, You should have taken out the iphone image, and kept the graffiti behind the actor. Congrats!

what are the editing glitches? please elaborate.

the iphone billboard was intentional. that billboard had something else entirely on it and it was not white. the iphone, graffiti, and dirt were all layered on in post. he used an iphone in the video and wanted to emphasize it since it's the new hip thing i guess.

i didn't have any blown images, just blown background which to me is the best way to get pure white when shooting on a white cyc. i overlight the background and use the 100% zebra to make sure all of and only the background gets blown. many of the wide shots exposed the edges of the cyc, lights, etc. you can see this in the last shot. i had to do a lot of cropping to lose this stuff and since it was blown, a pure white slug underneath blends perfectly with the cropped image. let me know if i should be doing this a better way.

thanks for the advice.

Nice job!

haha, sometimes that instrument between the vocals reminded me of the borat theme song ;)

lol!!! I Like!!! How Much??

Well done... I must say it's sharp the focus and the movements...
I guess you used motion to the the film flash effect at the end of the video, because for some reason I can't get that affect nailed perfectly in final cut.

i think that was a fcp transition called flashframe. don't know who makes it...

I've never met a talented editor to match their cinematography skills until now. Excellent work. I was going to say 'Shake' but i guess motion 3 is a good thing. How much time did you put into the edit? Did you direct?

Good, solid, music video that's on beat with the song.

I really liked the video on the moving trucks. cool stuff.

Thanks for all the great comments guys. I really appreciate it.

I did spend quite a bit of time on the edit, maybe 20 hours. I had not done any kind of motion tracking compositing prior to this. I knew that motion 3 had added this feature so I just shot it and hoped it would work as well as they claimed. It was actually pretty easy to figure out. I know there are a lot of things i stil don't know about it but once I figured out how to do the one thing I needed it to do, I went to work on it. I plan to dive back in to learn the other stuff. I was very impressed at the accuracy of the tracking. I did have to manually adjust some keyframes but not many. Yes, I also directed this one.

Very polished, great effects...

I think the only things I didn't like were the Apple products (looked like a commercial at first) and the singer's body being cut-off on some of the objects he was super-imposed on. It was fine when the edge of the frame matched the edge of the building, or screen, or vehicle, but to have it in the middle kind of breaks the illusion. Same goes for the zoom out at the end revealing the studio... should have kept him in music video-world.

But those are just quirks. Great job.

Extremely impressive video! The first thing that came to mind after seeing a few of the composited hand held shots was Children of Men.

Great cinematography and tracking/compositing work!
