16GB P2 Cards Out-of-Stock Everywhere?

I've not seen them in stock in any quantity.

For that matter, not seen any 8 Gbs either.

You have to wonder where they are being allocated.

Gave up and bought the firestore. I'm still waiting after 3.5 months for my rebate card from panasonic. I rented a few p2 cards when I bought the camera, but if it weren't for that shoot - I wouldn't believe they exist.

I always wonder why it is that it seems that rental houses have an excess of P2 cards.

The people I know with HVXs seem to only rent their cards -- nobody has any.

I ordered a single P2 card here in Aus over the weekend, along with a new rain cover.

On Monday, I got a call from the store saying the P2 cards won't be released in australia for another Month.

Yesterday (Wednesday), a 16GB P2 card arrived.

and then the rain cover today. It took less time to get a P2 card that is supposedly non-existant in aus than a rain cover, both from the same store and all. I dunno wtf that was all about.

first the 8 now the 16, I wonder if I will ever receive mine from the rebate...

Did anyone get their 8 or 16 from the rebate yet?

i'm still amazed at how people are able to just rent p2 cards by themselves. here they make you rent a whole package and won't rent out the p2 cards by themselves.

I also think it is criminal.. or atleast should be.. for an authorized panny dealer to sell on Ebay to get more cash for their cards. That one in LA was doing it, and so sleezy about the whole thing. They wouldn't or didn't call me back about buying the 16 gig card direct, but pointed me to their auction on Ebay.

My regualr vendor said that the end of July she'd get a shipment so I'll have to wait till then.

I think what's criminal (or a gross misdemeanor) is the lack of supply.

It's been this way for quite a while both for the 8 and now the 16 and the 8.

What gives?

How I Got Mine

How I Got Mine

Now that I've got my 2 16gb P2 cards in hand, I'm happy to share my strategy for getting them.
It appears that most stores are receiving small shipments of roughly the same size. So, with the biggest stores getting similar shipments to the smallest stores, I figured I'd call around the country to local stores with little to no Web presence. They get the same amount of supply, but far less demand.
I ended up not having to look very far, and got 1 card each from Omega Broadcasting in Texas, and 4 Video Equipment in New Jersey. They were both helpful, polite, and solid.
As a bonus, I don't have to pay sales taxes on either out-of-state purchase, which is a pretty big deal in Manhattan.
This strategy worked pretty well and pretty quickly in getting my first-ever P2 cards.
Some ways to find these smaller retailers: you can Google around for Flagship dealers in out-of-the-way places and ignore most of the ones you've ever heard of, or start running random Zip codes into Panasonic's dealer search.

Sounds like a good strategy.

As an aside . . . if your state has a sales tax, then you do have to pay a use tax in that state. You can't avoid the tax on an out of state purchase.

It isn't worth it to risk an audit in believing you are immune from sales/use tax on internet or mail order.

Especially if you are running a business.
