Glass or Resin Filters? Which is best and why?

Are glass filters that much better than resin filters? What are the benefits of one over the other? What are the downsides?

glass filters cost more, weigh more, but are far more scratch-resistant than the very delicate resin filters.

Generally speaking, optical grade glass is better than resin.

Glass doesn't scratch nearly as easily as resin.

Resin filters are dust magnets and you have to baby them so they don't get scratched.

Glass filters (4"x4" on up) are about 100 times more expensive than resin filters and you need an expensive mattebox to use them.

I bought a ton of Cokin 3"x3" filters to use with my camera with the thought that they are cheap enough and good (quality) enough to be useful and cost effective. If I use them a bunch of times and they get scratched, I can just throw them out.
